Pretty sure that Mercury got a patent on the 60 degree engine before they built it. Superior configuration because it is even fire. Probably why Strang could not build a production looper V6 and instead went with the 90 degree.

What was the OMC V8? 60 or 90?

    90. The only narrow engines they built were the 'Faststrike' V6's.

    I haven't bothered to look closely but are Merc's V8, V10 (and V12?) all 60s?

Do not know. Honestly I don't keep up with all of the new stuff like I did when I was younger. I would have to hit the lottery to own one!

The new Honda 350 V8 coming out is supposed to be a 60° engine and does not need a harmonic balancer. I’m just going off of what I’m reading from the general stuff that honda is putting out. Hopefully we will be getting some of these to sell next year after the Miami boat show.

Hope it is not an automotive adaption? Their 150 4cyl Acura adaptation had a major flaw. The engine was never intended to be tipped over 90 degrees which put a constant gravity load on the crank thrust washer. Factory paid recall. My engine was missed and found out the hard way on a dealer trade in. Merc V8s are purpose designed and have a multi year head start on Honda. My Merc ProXS V8 has FOUR more cylinders than my Honda 150 with just THIRTY more pounds on the transom?

I’m pretty sure your Honda 150 that you had problems with was an early model as we have had absolutely no trouble with the four-cylinder Hondas that we have sold in the past five years. Supposedly the 350 V8 there’s a purpose built motor for the marine industry use. Honda is a conservative company and does not really push their outboard engines near as much as the larger competitors Mercury, Yamaha, and Suzuki. The only thing I can say is time will tail best always a Amberjack.

    Region 16 racing

i dug up a few old pictures. I had wrecked my boat this day so I was able to take a couple pictures. The tunnel is Ron Brown from Colorado. We raced Mod 100 and Mod 110. he ran this Seebold with a sleeved down V6 merc. He had Dick Shearer make some pistons for a sleeved down V6 to make them work for Mod 110. he ran very well once he got it dialed in. The T2's and the other Super Stranglers had a hard time keeping up with V6. The Mod VP boat was owned by Pete ???. It was a Sleekcraft mod VP. he ran good as well. This was at Sloans lake in Denver. Sorry for the pictures. The scanner is way smarter than me.
