To be fair, it's James Beard and Clive Curtis' design (Cougar Marine UK) at the end of the day. They are the real geniuses behind what makes our hull run so well. We just try to build it as well as possible, with the best materials! We just dialed in the infusion process on the decks for the first time as well, so we can decide fully what each boat weighs before it's built, in full glass, full carbon, or a combination. The race boats we build are going to dominate the C class.
According to Grandpa Errol, back in the day, even the 2.5s had better results on the Cougars when placed in the clean water of the tunnel, the only problem was the weakness of the gearcases back then didn't hold up to offshore conditions.
The 300/450 Sporty and especially the 500r case should hold up even better, but we haven't tested either in a twin setup yet to know for sure. Brent and Joe Mata both had/have the old 3L Sporty setup, and havent broken a case as far as I'm aware, you may know better than me on those particular rigs.
If the cases dont hold up for whatever reason, my uncle Sean bought back our Hull #1, which has a center pod that extends to about halfway the depth of the sponsons, that we can use to test the theory without much extra work. The only limit for us has always been the power available, so we're excited to play again! We have two 500R 20's on our build list, a 525 Yamaha single is almost finished rigging at Steve Bishops, and Brent will be back going again in no time with his OG carbon hull FINALLY, and with a 450.
We couldn't have designed the new motors better ourselves within the constraints Merc was under. We wanted more displacement, and Merc gave it to us. Now we just have to be safe as we explore the limits and enjoy the fruits of our labor. No number or trophy is worth getting hurt. We're just excited to finally have a hull long enough to legally race and run the shootout, and I'm hoping to find my way to a seat to start racing myself! Hopefully we can get a twin setup ready by next year, but who knows, by then you might be in the 140s! Keep crushing it!

Could you show a picture of hull one, ?
My I Idea was a smallish pod just near transom, would have to test different hights of center pad height.
Should close the tunnel add some compression.
Just one of those what If's
Brent's the man, He's got the Feel for that boat

These boats are going so much faster than the old days, gearcases are high, hidden behind the sponson, less drag
The 500 gear case is the size of a Hydrofoil
We have invented the world; WE see

It's mostly out of the water at high speeds anyway. From what I've been told, the biggest difference is stability, especially in the turns. The closer together the motors, the less tendency for trouble where one wave catches one prop and lifts one sponson, but not the other, like you see with some of the super stock boats designed to have them outside, that flip if you turn them too hard in rough water, as opposed to just spinning out flat. The safety advantage is worth the extra load on the gearcase, at least in my opinion.

What the heck are you spewing now? There are thousands of boats that show up on Shootout weekend plus all of the locals with some very impressive boats. Some guys run in Shootout. Are you saying only one four-stroke O/B ran in the Shootout? Wrong. You really need to see it for yourself. This is the biggest performance boat event in the country by a long shot.

lots of outboards....**but only one with 2 strokes** No sense in bringing knives to a gun fight
Performance, DWs, MTIs, DCBs, Skaters, Outerlimits, Fountains, Statements in multiple classes from professional, amateur, and manufacture. Positively the best week long performance boat event every year. This along with Key West are two events that every enthusiast needs to experience first hand.

Been there done that. I have LOTO class award to prove it. My MTI twin 1300's and I drove the 44 MTI twin 1550's Mercedes boat that year. MY 36 Talon is an old school hull that has no hope of running the speed of Joe's 36 DW. My boat runs hard in rough water and is fast enough to keep most boats behind me. I go to LOTO to run with the Poker Runs, go to Cat Fest, meet many old and new friends, hangout at pool bars and watch the Shootout.

Chaz,
No need to buy me anything for Christmas. I have no desire to learn Hillbilly. May I suggest this book for you?

O yes way different environment, I grew up in Florida and there was a lot of cash floating around in those days. I was just talking about the number of performance boats .The bigger fast boats have really come to LOTO and there are a lot of places to run to.Was replying to FUJIMO
