2+2 in catalog was a prototype. It never made it to the consumer market. I think the Magnum Missile had the market wrapped up at the time?

Too bad, I always thought that was a sharp boat.

    Very cool.

For the short time that I worked for Tim Butts of Butts Aerowing fame, the Koenigs were everything.
    Before the Yamato Pro motors.

Tim and his boats had all the UIM Pro Hydro records.
350cc to 1100cc for quite a few yrs.

The 250/350’s we’re opposed two’s and 500cc and up were all opposed 4’s.

    Cute little boogers.
    60 some pounds!

    No low end though.
We had to pick them up, prop out of the water to rope start them.

Sliding expansion chambers to follow their power bands.

Never heard of them on a real tunnel boat until seeing them on your thread Lars.
    Way cool.

Some people reading here get really upset when I tell the true story why both Roger Jenkins and me left OMC 1976/77 to race Volvo Penta-Konig
    in the UIM OE class.
Roger left OMC before me and when Volvo Penta in Sweden offer me an extremely good deal to race in the Volvo colors 1977..I could not say no..
Best ever payday for me..!!..Yes..even big money for me to go Offshore racing..!!

First picture is the 1975 UIM OE class World Champion Roger Jenkins driving a Volvo Penta-Konig in the OE class 1976/77
Second picture is me racing offshore with Volvo Penta 1977

Konig engines have always been a thing of beauty, that one was no different. That belt system is really cool too, incredible thought and engineering in that.

They were the holy grail when I was involved.

It was fun watching them come out of the turns and pull the pipes.
Going into the turns they’d extended the pipes which tuned them for lower rpm, then pull them on exit, which shortened the tuned length of the pipes for top end.

When they did this, their rooster tails would lay down.
    Basically coming in boost.

The 500’s we’re faster than all but the best 700’s and sometimes even faster than them.
They also ran an 1100 class but the 500’s were almost always the fastest.

    Best power I heard fro
    a 500 in that late ‘70’s/early 80’s era was 180-ish.
Similar to the GP bikes of the day.

Last kilo record I heard of for a 500 hydro was 10 or so yrs ago, set w/a Yamato at 128!

Were the pipe extensions mechanically linked to throttle position?

Separate lever right beside the throttle.

I put a sliding chamber on a 350cc Yamato 80 back in the day.

First time I ran it w/my test wheel on the tach, it ran the same as stock.
    Then I pulled the pipe.
It instantly buried the 8k tach!!

A 1000 more than ever before snd never that quickly.
You never saw a prop get installed so quickly!

Back in early 1977 when I signed the contract with Volvo Penta in Gothenburg to race for them in the UIM OE class..it was clearly in the contract I must use the Konig UIM OE class engine with the Volvo Penta outboard engine cover.
Konig did have a 6 cylinder UIM OE class engine available but Volvo Penta said NO..I could only race that engine after OK from Volvo..
I asked a couple of times but always the same answer..NO..
Dieter Konig's sisters son Mareth did use the 6 cylinder engine in most of the races 1977..He was not under contract with Volvo Penta. The problem was I did beat Mareth with my 3 cylinder engine with the Volvo Penta engine cover..even in Brodenbach.
Here is a picture of the 6 cylinder Konig..later Dieter made a 8 cylinder engine for the UIM OE class..powerful but not dependable. At that time most of the races in the UIM OE/F3 World Series was longer..more like 30 minutes and OMC was the best choice.

(I still wonder how fast my black Molinari could have been with the Konig 6 cylinder engine.)

    Very cool Lars.

Lars I was at a pro race in Florida several years ago and they had an eight cylinder Koenig there.

It was two opposed fours stacked on top of each other but it never did run right.

Is the Konig boat a 3 point hydro or a tunnel boat?

You posted that pic before and I could never tell??

    Regardless, very impressive.
I think Jimbo set a Mod 50 kilo record in the low 100’s??

    103/104??

If I remember correctly Jimbos best Mod 50 record was around 115 MPH.
Similar speed as my Konig/Molinari 1977 and my with Burgess/Evinrude 1982.
