Yes, Critchfield, later to become the Scat-Craft "Viscount" 15', I believe...I think...Maybe... Anyways, it was a fast hull shape in its day.

Well, that explains the mystery of the boat, it was a one of a kind. I assume he ran it in the Sports I & Sports J classes because there were no other entries in the Family I & Family J classes that weekend? I thought Jeff normally ran a Scatcraft in the SI class.

    Check that...it was "SI-6" before "43"...

It also looks like Jeff was running a stock 1968/1969 Merc 1000, not a BP. If some of these pics are from January 1970 then could he not have used a 1000 BP in SI?

Apparently he was doing fine without it! I'll ask him...I can't keep it straight. Jeff and Jim Hunt got the first 2 BP's in Florida. Jim may have something to add...

Jeff was the master in those needle nose Critchfield hulls. His boats were the best rigged and the cleanest you ever saw. Jeff in one of those boats was something to see.

I believe Jeff won I and J at the 1970 Nationals with this Needle-nose. And won U with the Scat, but was second in S. He was also thrown out of a Sabre in FS(?).

Alright I talked to Dad yesterday and here is more acurate info...
The May '70 article was probably one of the last times he ran that Needle-nose. He sold it shortly after because the Scat Craft replaced it.
Jeff did run a BP on an earlier S-I Critchfield v-bottom. This was the boat he was running with a GT-115 from Jack Leek when he was offered the BP. Jim Hunt got one the same day at Lake X and Dad believes these were the first BPs to race in the US that very weekend. This story was detailed some months ago here on S&F. Only thing unclear about that story is where the race was. Jim believes Key West, Jeff believes Jacksonville.
To the earlier question about the stock motors vs the BP in S-I...Jeff believes the BPs were banned from S-I in '69/'70??
At the '70 Nationals in Miami, he won S-I and S-J in Danny Critchfield's Scat which was rigged for Mercury. He swapped the 90 and 100ci engines that were owned by Danny and Ray Parker. Jeff won U in his Scat which was rigged for OMC with his white 100ci Johnson (also from Leek), then stepped-up to S and finished, he thinks, second.
He also ran FS(?) in an all-glass Sabre with his white cowl Johnson. This hull was named "Booger Red". He said the Mercs were much faster. In desperation, he stuck his nose inside of Hauptner in the first turn, who promptly chopped it off. Thus, Jeff's big weekend was ended in a bath.

I think he sold the Scat Craft complete with rigging for $600. the caption also mentions the BP rule change.

Good picture. I see a few familiar boats.in there. I had not thought of Bob Boalick (SJ-6) in years.
