In the post above, "over the hub dewalds", should state thru hub dewalds.

Classic, Not intending to derail this thread, but what changes did you do to to your boat to accommodate the added weight of the 400's? Very impressive results!

28 Skater 400r
I went from 4 blade dewalds to testing with 5 blade dewalds and Hill... I moved the batteries from the stern to the front bulkhead. Thr hop is so minimal... its a joke to even call it a hop. Keep the trim negative and the hop is nothing... trim up to build speed faster and there is a lil hop that you power thru in 10 seconds. Its all relative...

There has not been anything that has worked well on the big case motors other then the Max 5, Mercury CNC, and now the Hills. That is about to change, stay tuned for the new Dewalds that are in the works-

That is rollin' in a 28 skater. The fastest one with 300X motors was Jim Melly at 127 and now Tom Kennedy has his running mid 20s as well. I think all of them will run that if you are willing to carry the extra weight. Randy ran 125 with a 25 liberator and 400Rs too but it still had the extra 300lbs on the transom Vs. the 300R option.

Like i said earlier... those boats that ran those 300x motors are heavily modified, perfect conditions, perfect temp, no humidity, perfect everything. I ran the boat in the heat of the summer... 10 min after a thunderstorm... very little tuning... stock motors...
Yes, Dewald is coming out with a 5 blade over the hub prop with a larger diameter. Im willing to try those props since im a Dewald lover. If the dewald is the same as the previous but with increased diameters... i dont expect better numbers... reasonbeing is... the hill is more efficient. As i stated above... i went up in diameter and 1 pitch more...and i gained more rpm... more speed...
HILL prop is a replica of a mercury CNC at a fraction of the cost... my purpose of this thread was to report numbers and real data in real conditions on fresh motor with 10 hours... in my experience you all will convert to 400s... 28 skater is the best boat ever built and the resale value is a reflection of that as well... repower your skater and go to the next level... I love my boat !

Rigged a couple of those 32 Midnights with trips back in the 80s...looks like fun with the twin Verados. What is the CC cat in that video?

Come out to the shootout in three weeks. Its typically 95 with the same humidly that we have here and not what most would call perfect water "even the shootout course has small rollers-video of a run just before Tom and I were up".
https://youtu.be/PoOIbSDXcLc
Toms motors have a different exhaust tuner-not a very heavy modification. Dale Rayzor ran 120 with his 28 and 300XS motors (they were 15" conversions) but again two hundred h.p. less and almost 400#s less on the transom then a verado package.
I am not talking about just a larger diameter that Dave has coming out. Its not my place to disclose it but there will some in action at the shootout.
I have had 7 skaters so far and rebuilt 3 of them-headed to Skaterfest in the morning so "I too am a fan of Petes and what he has created". I appreciate your confidence in their build quality but I hold another boat for my " best ever cat choice".

Ive never been to the shootout, but its a long drive from miami to run a top speed. From what ive been told it ...it can have a strong current which i could capitalize on. Im not trying to cheat on the #s. A few of my friends have skaters and we run around miami and do runs in key west. I think you all would have alot more fun in my town than loto... also the conditions are real... no current.. beautiful women, good people, beautiful hotels... alot of fun
As far as what Dave is making. I will try it and report numbers....good or bad... Im waiting for the props as well. When i spoke to dave he said the props were still about a month away in the making. I guess you know a little more on the timeline...
What you think is the best cat of choice is a matter of opinion. However, im currious to know what you think is a better 28... If you want to come on a run in the keys. We have an event with the keys island runners August 17... about 150 boats attend... another run in keywest in about 2 months. Its beautiful there and we get a discount on the rooms. We reserve about 30 rooms at the Perry hotel. The hotel is amazing , sunday brunch is amazing and the water is crystal clear... people are great...

Just looked at your video... those conditions are a dream... i consider that flat calm... looking at your face on the pic there is no sweat. Its dry... no humidity... alot of your boats run atleast 5 mph faster there...

I have been to the keys several times, been on the KW poker run and I agree its great boating and beautiful.
There is no current at LOTO and its a week long event with a ton of stuff to do in addition to the shootout on Saturday and Sunday. I guarantee the conditions get real (ask anyone who has been there). The fastest boats in U.S. along with the biggest enthusiast attend the event-you need to experience it.
You will be able to get virtually any propeller that you want from Dave in the very near future.
I have been visiting the Skater plant for 40 years (I used to ride my bicycle to the old river warehouse by the bridge in Saugatuck as a young kid) and there are only two things that I would love to see change 1. Balsa core--Its great until it gets wet or powders from repeated blow cycles. It also is a wood product and has inconstant densities compared to todays closed cell composite cores. 2. Fuel tanks built in as part of the boat with the tunnel wall, running surface, and sponson side being used as the bottom and two sides of the tank.--Its great until you have a tank problem or hit something.
I am big fan of Doug Wrights boats. I was at his shop today and I usually get down there once or twice a week. His all composite 36 has run 126 (at the desert storm shootout) with 400Rs, is built like a tank, has a ton of storage and there is waiting line to get them. Used ones sell before they are advertised--but they are out of my financial reach.
I hope to see you soon when I get my 300R 28 completed.

Okay so you should come out and lay down a 130 pass pretty easily. If you can, you will be a first to do so with 400Rs. Check out this video after the 5 minute mark for real conditions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YVnDTWy_3s
