Those conditions in that video are no good... too many boats with opposing wakes... i would love to go out there but i only one set of props. If i get on the limiters i would need more pitch... im just not prepared for it. Give me some time and im sure the boat will run 130 in the winter. Its a challenge to do on stock power. I know i can do it if i flash...
As far as construction of new skater... after 2006, i believe all skater are no longer balsa cored. Hulls are kevlar and bulkheads are composite... i could be wrong... as for tanks... they use the walls to maximize capacity and ballance boat within the capacity. If you hit something that is a problem. If you hit something where the tank is...The good thing is... the boat wont sink unless you puncture the top of the tank... its all relative...
Wright makes a nice boat... i was talking the best 28... not a 36. The 28 skater does not pack so much air and become dangerous. The new 28 wide body skater will pack more air and be faster.. there is a cost to that... it will be more flighty yet faster... its all relative... its better to be safe than sorry.

Not to ruffle any feathers, but there is a 28SS Nordic with 400Rs out here running a buck 30. Stock ECUs and not a trimmed down model either.

First I would like to say I have no dog in this fight. As a Skater loyalist/S. FL Boater I would like to comment on this thread. Knowing Tom Kennedy I can say with 100% confidence his motors are NOT highly modified. Did Dales 300xs’s have a few mods, yes. But neither of these boats have had any internal mods done. Just a ton of time spent on set up. As with my 308 I consider it to be the fastest 30’ Skater ever at a best of 112 with 600hp It consistently will run 106-108 in the heat of S. FL. My motors are 100% Stock! As seen the pic attached Bob Loeffler’s 2018 28’ Skater with 15” 300x motors touched 130mph this past winter under some real extreme ideal circumstances including extremely cold temps, set up set on Kill. Not an everyday number but a once in a lifetime real world run at LKN, NC.
I agree with Classic Seacraft that our conditions down here hamper top speeds and I have not found one boat from up north to replicate the numbers run up north or out west. They can all say what they want but under REAL world conditions those boats are far off the mark. Having owned a 28 with both 300xs’s and 300x and running them in the S. FL waters enjoy your ride but respect what you have as that is a lot of weight on the transom for a boat that was designed for 2.5’s back in the day. Just be careful as they can get away from you in flash. I look forward to making it down that way and boating with you guys and seeing the Keys Skater Clan. The last comment regarding Skaters Joe is I here what you are saying about balsa and what happens if it gets wet and fuel tank issues but Peter’s boats have withstood the test of time and his boats IMO are second to none when it comes to build quality if maintained correctly aside from fuel tank ethanol issues which were not his fault. I can also say with 100% that all builders have had some issues including DW’s. Let’s see how those new models fair with 15yrs of use under them. There are some new Skater Race O/B boats in works with teams that have some real money to fund the program which hopefully will show why they are still one of the best boats out there.

His runs are well documented and not too ruffle any feathers they run on the delta and where humidity is around 50% or less. A boat with that size with 800hp should run 130 IMO with a proper set up. I think we can all agree so far as history has shown there has not been a faster 28’ than a Skater other than possibly the DW28 with the same power. I would be willing to bet that boat would not break 125mph in the summer in S. FL Keys. The owner of that boat has a ton of experience and set up knowledge also and has owned many boats including Skaters, Nordics, and recently a new DW.

The 130 mph nordic is Pauls boat. Ive never meet him but ive heard alot of good things about him. It just so happens that one of my best friends owned his previous nordic. Also to be noted... My 28 skater was owned by Paul as well. Paul has an eye for detail and we were fortunate enough to be handed down his boats. Pauls videos of our boats were documented with top speeds. However our conditions here are not the same. Our boats ran about 5 mph slower in miami.

DOBBLE RIGGED.... Well said! Your opinion is definately respected. I would love to meet you. I retract my statement "Highly modified" to just modified. Its all about setup and conditions. It take alot of testing to get the boat perfect.
The 28 was originally designed for 2.5... in early 2000s skater started to beef up the transom for 3.0. Now recently skater did its first 400r on a 28 skater. That boat was previewed by Speed on the water 28 skater 400r... google it... I spoke with pete and Tony at skater about the improvements on the boat to handle additional weight and setup. Then I went to the boat show iin miami and personally talked to Tony ... At the time I was on the waiting list for 300rs... After getting his input...He advised me to put put the 400s on. So I canceled my order and here I am now with 400r.

I think you would love them, I am going to try some on my 28SS with 400Rs. I ran them on my F26 with 300XS and wow they where incredible so so smooth and fast! I have to believe they are also so much easier on prop shafts and gear case's.

Sounds like with higher rake water psi more stable and with a little bigger diameter can run higher on transom can always cut down props can't add.

Did you order 34s or 35s? I would have Dave make them 15" then sharp round the tips making them 14 7/8" with a 14 degree rake and you should have a great set up-

Thanks Joe, A little late. I ended up asking for and have received my 15 32 18 degree rake a few weeks ago. I can put them on the limiter with 3 people and some fuel. They work great. I built for all around use. I will keep my eye out for a second set closer to what you recommended.
    Cheers

What you think is the best cat of choice is a matter of opinion. However, im currious to know what you think is a better 28... If you want to come on a run in the keys. We have an event with the keys island runners August 17... about 150 boats attend... another run in keywest in about 2 months. Its beautiful there and we get a discount on the rooms. We reserve about 30 rooms at the Perry hotel. The hotel is amazing , sunday brunch is amazing and the water is crystal clear... people are great...
