O and picked up this TURD for $1000 to run between blow ups................
98 2.5 EFI off shore FF block. added a 260 39# regulator. throttle no progression linkage. Boysen power reeds and .050 of the heads. steel cage rod bearings and large SPS bolts.
Suppose to be gods gift to the out board from what I am told. Same timing as a Pro Max 225 from the factory.
Should turn a 30P at 7100 on the fuel dump rich limiter I am told.
WILL SEE..................................

No thy are the same have the 225 print from LA sleeve and the 98 200 FF block measures the same as that print. Even asked my bud DEEZ NUTS and he said YUP!!!
Also has the second cut in the ex port like the 225 promax and 240 sport jet. only difference in the block is it has the small opening out of the chest and no cut in the rod slot.
Same timings in the sleeve.Last edited by dwilfong; 09-14-2018 at 05:32 AM.

Your correct about all that but then there`s the big difference in the front half when compared to the 225pm. A while back we tested both motors as they came from Merc with both being on 21ft Bullet Bass boats. The 200 had just a small amount of hole shot over the 225pm but once both boats laid down the pm rolled right on by. We tried several props and the story never changed. The pm is simply a more powerful motor.

if no difference why would merc build two different block halves?.. maybe ta save paint?

Yes the front half are different 200 is 5 and 225 is 7 reed setups. The 96 and up 200 FF has the sport jet larg 4 petal rubberized reeds also.
EFI box tuning is different also. I am using the stock 200 A8 box.
Now go and find a virgin low hr 225 and see if it goes for $1000 complete. Sold the lower for $500 and the charging system for $150 and the coil pack for $100. So how much $$$ is in this eng?????????
The 96 and up 200 EFI FF block engines are cheep and plentiful.
I am very interested to see how it runs in this almost stock state.
I have seen lots of reports on how this eng is the tits on a cow. Well I will see if it is all it is cracked up to be this week end.
What ever it is it should live a long life on the back of the Vector as the go to eng.
You know there are lots of thing I could have done to it. BUT I said NO lets just keep this one what it is I may be supersized.
It is what it is and it will stay that way...........Last edited by dwilfong; 09-14-2018 at 12:03 PM.

I am running a 98 200 FF motor. Nearly stock. It performs real good. I did go to an a-11 box (200 pro max) and found it will run thru the limiter to 7k at least. Only things I have done was c. carson reeds and cleaned up the heads. Timed at 25*. Super unleaded fuel, oil inj. and spark box deleted.. Fast as a promax 225? I dunno. Pretty darn close? yes.

It is funny you make a simple statement "it has the same port timing as a 225" and the DRAMA begins...............

28p Lightning et (labbed) running about 6800. Shaft about even with the pad. I had always heard the porting is similar, but not the same motor as a promax. But like you said, a good runner for not many dollars.
