The mid is taller but did the rules restrict the use of the standard tower? Yes I know about Anthony's project & Farmer's boat. I just wasn't convinced that picking up the exhaust in the open exhaust housing was doing much tuning.
and btw we struggled with the mid range with the 45 but were able to overcome that issue by fattening up the mid range jets and going a bit leaner on the high speed jets

The Secret Weapon.
When Mike Downard (Mercury factory driver) came to Italy in the early 1970’s, to race in the tunnel boat race at Auronzo, he brought with him from the states an advantage. Mike told me he had a secret weapon, and then unveiled a 4 bladed prop.
