Mercury 300xs Oil Injection System Question

This is almost comical so bare with me..

I primed the oil system again (4 times total now) and more than 1/2 the oil in engine mounted tank was sucked through, so the motor had oil.. yet the hose still looked clear. So I removed the hose entering the pump and... ready for this, Mercury used a gold'ish color oil in the system for break in.. lol. I was expecting blue oil.



I refilled the engine oil tank with Hi-Perf (blue) oil and fired the engine.. I smoked the yard heavily and you could slowly see the oil in the line change color.

So long story short, I was worried about nothing...

i was going to say it looks like theirs oil in it to me. haha Just to dam clean. lol

Yep they used the DFI oil

From Service Manual. I guess Mercury doesnt care which oil as long as its theirs

Mercury Racing 2‑Stroke Oil is recommended for OptiMax engines that are
used in applications of extreme loads associated with commercial, work, or
extended periods of high RPM. The added lubrication and protection properties
with Mercury Racing 2‑Stroke oil, maximizes engine horsepower while
protecting against heat, reduces wear and carbon deposit build‑up.
OptiMax DFI engine oil or Premium Plus 2‑Cycle Outboard Oil can be used as
an alternate oil.

Todd and Karen @ Screaming Eagle give me a great price on cases (3 gallons) of the Mercury Racing oil so it's a no brainer for me. Which is a good thing because the 300XS is an oil hog in break in mode with the 20:1 mix.

I guess that this tells us that any TC-W3 rated oil will do...
