Me too. I took it to Raybo on Long Island about a month ago. I don't think he's started on it yet which is fine as I told him to take his time. When he pulls the floor he will send me pics. Right now I'm going full bore on the Baja to get it ready for the lake this summer. I need to be ready for the annual family get together at the lake July 4th.

Nope. Raybo still has it and that's fine with me right now. It's safely out of my way and isn't costing me anything. I am moving forward on the Baja. All the gauges are in and I ended up rewiring nearly everything. All straight now and I hope to hang the motor this weekend.Click image for larger version.

Thanks, but I got lucky and started out with a nice boat. It cleaned up really well. It's original gel and much to my surprise the interior is all original too. I thought for sure it had been redone, but when I pulled the rear seat and saw the the remains of the factory plastic covering I was shocked. Previous owners really took care of this boat. That is except for some wiring, especially the stereo. A hack job with splices, poor connections and tape everywhere.

Raybo opened up the floor today. The verdict is my "pristine" Viper is ROTTEN TO THE CORE. Yes, pun intended. Oh well, I was hoping for the best but expecting the worse. At least it will be easier to get out. More proof all HydroStreams are rotten. Click image for larger version.

Well now it will be pristine!!

And deep down you knew it was needing a re-core.

While it's tough to say all streams are rotten ( Most are or got restored ), it is safe to say that wood exposed to moisture will rot.... It's just a matter of time.

You DO have a "Pristine" motor for it though !! Love that XS...

Thanks. Disappointed for sure, but I think it's a boat worth fixing. In the end, I'll have peace of mind knowing it's safe and solid.

Easy to see why they all failed. Chopper gun glass work, and a "build one an hour" mentality. Which was the industry standard at the time. Also explains how these boats only cost 3000 bucks when originally sold at the dealer.

I spent a lot of time under the boat when I was getting rid of the rollers and installing bunks. I did not see anything, the underside looked very good, as did the rest of the boat. But what I could see of the core looked good to me. obviously I don't know what I'm looking at so maybe there is still more to be discovered.
