Mike Griffith of Mercury Racing was at my shop a few months ago. I asked him if there were plans to put 400's on 15" mids for consumers and have warranty. He said, at that time there was no plans to build 15" 400R's for the consumer market. Just my 2 cents

Thanks Todd. Curious, did Mike give the reason why?

As you may imagine, I'm asking because a 15" sure would pair up nice with a lower profile center pod tunnel like... say... a Talon 22 SS.

No, he did not say, but in my opinion Mercury is looking at the ratios of engines sold. My guess is there is probably 1000 fishing motors sold for every one Mercury Racing motor sold, just a guess.

The reason for them not doing it is limited sales. The powerheads are the same. However the 15" motor has external fuel and oil tank. These have to be mounted inside the boat. The motor as it sits has not been approved for recreational use. That is why it is labeled as a race motor.
I know they are saying that for now but the more O/B cats that are being built it is still possible that they may get it type approved. The sales have to out weigh the investment.

The noise is part of the CARB rating so maybe the 15inch cant meet whatever is required for 2 star compliance and or due to the small sales Merc wont bother just like they did with Gen 2 200xs that dont have an epa rating ( UIM accepted Merc that said it was the same as Gen1 that did have 2 star rating)

I wonder how many credits they get selling 3 star 2 strokes to enable them to keep selling 2 star 4 strokes engines?

    Power ,
It's the Coast Guard that doesn't like fuel or oil being cycled back into the hull , in the hands of John Q. Public on his "family" boat .

In case you miss the memo , we have a new POTUS and EPA czar . Neither one of them give a &^%$ about house minority leader Nancy P. and her CARB board .
They have been signing deregulation orders so rapidly , that even I am having difficulty keeping up with the depth of their coverage ..

oh yer I missed that, pressurised stuff going back in the boat.
I dont think the unwinding of the epa/carb rules will do anything, if Merc and Brp want to sell in Europe/California and lots of other countries they will still need to make compliant engines. Lets see if 2.5 280/300 come back?
I think the punters have come to like the fuel savings.
Perhaps 200xs's will come out with w/tee and go on all those boats that need a light V6?

    .

Anyone interested in purchasing a pair of used 400ROS ?

The motors are in the XCat circuit ... if they would part the motors and boat... curious how much it would cost to ship the motors to USA from Dubai?

The hull fits inside a ship container.

Power , worry not . They are only minor "fly over" facts . Duck , a few more will be along shortly ..

From what I gather , foreign country's like California and those found in Europe have much bigger problems right now than starting up their own outboard motor mfg company's , because they don't approve of the one being built in the UNITED STATES.

Lets see if 2.5 280/300 come back?
How many did you order ? Nope , neither did anyone else ...

Yes , but can they double up and place kick on the extra point conversion team ?

Perhaps 200xs's will come out with w/tee and go on all those boats that need a light V6?
200xs ... have they sold a full dozen of them yet ?

Have you heard of a place called Japan? Some say they build the best outboard engines in the world there...
