I am doing my best to have 400 on for night in Venice this weekend in OC NJ.
I figured **** it.. I likely won't sell Argo anytime soon, put 15" xs on motor stand, ordered a new XS that gets delivered Tuesday because I'm hearing they are going to be discontinued so I figure I need to mothball one or two, and I'll run this 400r, actually working on getting a 2nd one for a diff project..
I may be an idiot to do it, may waste $, and may be in for a wild ride but I'm gonna give it a shot just to prove to myself its a bad idea.
I will have no rigging or battery in back like stated earlier and we will see what happens.
If it works great I'm sending it to Bayville to clean up new rigging
If it sucks Im pulling the motor and honestly calling DW for one of those 32s and buying the 2nd 400 I'm working on getting. 125 mph in style like that one in NH is good for me.
Just really need to comitt to on path and stay on it, real hard when it comes to boats and sports cars..

I wish you luck and hope it works out. I think that in the coming months with the likes of Skater, MTI, DW, DCB, Sonic, Spectre, and the other OB cats being built we will hopefully see improvements in a lot areas. Who would have thought 20yrs ago that 5 blade round ear props would be faster than the cleavers of those days.
I do feel bad for the smaller boats where the weight is really a lot. But like Chaz said there are tons of parts around to facilitate keeping them running.
I also agree with Dale on the handling aspects too which is most important to how I use my boat. The additional weight would upset the CG. I love working on my own stuff so for me the 300x is a better fit. Now if they come out with a 450R 15" version I may have to jump on board!!!!!
What fun would this sport be if we all had the same set up. Pretty boring.
Just be smart, safe and use that safety gear.

Just save yourself lots of time and money and build a DW32 now w/ those 400Rs you have. It sounds like you can afford it, so take the plunge - you'll be glad you did! I was nervous buying my first 28 Skater at age 30, but I'm so glad Rick Bowling talked me into it, because I've enjoyed the bigger boats immensely for the past 15 years! The 32DW w/ 400Rs is the baddest outboard boat out right now!

Your entire post was a good one Ron........but I especially like the part about a 15" 450R! If in the next 5 years, Mercury comes out with a 15" 500R, I would probably sell both my Skaters and have just one boat - a new 34 Doug Wright w/ 15" 500Rs! I know I'm being very optimistic, but IF it could run 140 best, and 130s every day - I would be sold! The ease of use/maintenance/fuel economy/lower cost of outboards with close to the same performance as inboards would make for an awesome rig imo.........

I agree, but 300hp per liter is already being attained by other domestic engine builders in a "non-exotic" engine, so I don't see why 200hp per liter isn't feasible in a consumer engine. The technology is there already, it's just a matter of if they want to release it to the public with a warranty or not.

Not in a mass production motor though.

I brought up this motor many pages earlier on this thread
of what technology has today to offer
vrsing this 400 that is from the verado platform that started almost 10 yrs ago
just as like the 280-300 2.5 was from 1976 2.0 platform
glad to see all these boat builders making these cats for this motor
as it is all that is out there today for 400hp o/bLast edited by johnmiffco; 08-05-2016 at 12:41 PM.
