I also like the idea of an inline "something" back there..you wanted 70mph ?? No worries

The trailer is no biggie, you had no way to know about that...

Yep! Zero wrong boat, just need a new egg beater assend.... and while looking rebuild the damn trailer! Axles are cheap compared the "smoke towing". Been there done that too! Friend mine with a old Ironhead Sporty and my Shovelhead HD's. From Illinois in 1990 HAD to go Sturgis for 50th anniversary event. No way he could do the 990 mile ride, so we loaded the bikes on my trailer and as his wife, and 2 kids wanted a "vacation" so me and Mick in my van towing, Jen and the kids following.

On the way back? We were in contact CB radio and Jen says.."ya gotta smoking tire the trailer"! Looked back and saw my side a "rooster tail SMOKE" my side! Flat tire! And just before I stopped, the tire had came off hub and laying there close. So one the kid goes to grab it and bring it back me? HA! He grabbed it and tossed it 20 feet in the air saying?

    DAMN ..THATS HOT!

Chin up on this my friend and ...well..."welcome to the club of learning" as its always a lesson in life, never will know "will this work", or worse.."its OK for now"?

Wish the best, and we all got yer back UNTIL THE WITCH GETS WET AND RUNS FINE!.. (now if ya launch it ready and forget to put the plug in we will personal show up and whack ya upside the head)! HA!.."yep, guilty"!

Doc could whip this motor up I mage pretty quick. I really wanted it hanging off the back of my 1971 Schuster but now I am stuck with a damn 2011 150 Optimax.....Go figure.

As I recall, it needs a fuel pump, water pump and one cylinder is low on spark needing some sort of Switch.......Has the newer Switches if that means any thing......Sorry, I failed Outboard motors .01....I know flippin nothing about them.

I would just rather see this motor running again and help a fellow boater out than haul it to the dump.

No big as the Doc is free to help here PM me private, as don't want to waste his time. Cut Tunnel a deal and let him work it and see whats what. Can't let a old IL6 go to waste, and nothing can't be fixed, or improve on. Plus the Doc..?...if its wanted Merc IL6, he has it!

An 1984 IL 115 is prop rated and had integral power trim n tilt.

My father had one of those on a 17' WellCraft, it was a sweet mil for sure. My father was a tried and true Johnson/Evinrude man, until I convinced him to try a Merc. He loved the "tower of power" !!

The Wellcraft never ran so fast. Didn't have GPS or a speedo, but the "Butt-O-Meter" showed a definite improvement over the 115 Evinrude...to be fair, the old 1972 Evinrude was not prop rated.

The 84 year Merc 115 was the one year Merc tried brown color decals.
But for color scheme correctness for HMT' red/wht boat, Mercury does have many years of varying red color stripped decals he could redo the brown with.

That will be a fun ride for sure .... and look bad @zz

Had a "brandzy new" 84 115 Merc on my 18ft Center Console "Divers Delight" that I photographed shipwrecks with. Put about a grand hrs on that 115 without even a burp!!! Also is is still being used today by a fellow diver without a rebuild! One thing I do remember it used almost as much fuel as my 2.4 on my 22ft Cuddy Cabin. Gary

Don't toss it , too much work in it. If you find another triple with the merc leg grab it and make a good runner out of this one with that head and reeds and all the other fresh stuff. Looks like that merc/force version can't live with the port height/size #3 is getting to hot , you could try a shorter tuner to help scavenge or build out the chest with a spacer but what a f up. You know you did it all and the thing should live. Don't tip the boat with that L6.

You guys are all awesome. I love this community.
I've PM'ed a couple folks here, and I'm going to work some numbers and see what my next plan of attack is... Has there ever been a WHITE merc IL6 ?? Or would painting a merc white be sacrilegious ? By the way... Don't google "White Tower of Power"... It doesn't have any good results!

Everything on this Force 90 is brandy new...
    Options so far:
Accept defeat / Rebuild an IL6 merc 115...
Swap a stock powerhead onto this setup for +$2k
Throw on my reliable Force 50hp and put-put around for the rest of the summer with adult beverages/dogs/ladies?

Option 3 sounds GREAT for now haha. But it's a 15" leg, and now I have a jack plate on the back.
I could always make a glass top end table with this motor !

I like the IL6. That 2K could be funding toward a white IL6 hangin on the back of your boat or close to it ... jmpo

FMP does bring a good point about tilting the boat...wonder how much more the IL6 with trim weighs over the 90 Force?
And what kind of personality would the boat have with that set up? May need some negative wedges between the motor and transom so you could run more negative trim at slower cruising speeds to negate any porpoising issues. jtol

Some like the tilt...kinda makes people do a double take when they see one setting low in the back..... and that would be right after checking out the cool shark teeth on the front of your boat

A lot of motors get painted to match the color or theme of their boat.
The some of the really older Mercury motors were white.

    Decisions Decisions .....

I have yet to remember to take my camera down to the water but I have a 2011 Mercury Optimax hanging off the back of my 16 ft Tahiti. I think the Opti set Up runs about 180 pounds more than the old Evinude 125.

For all to see as I don't want to be hiding anything about the Mercury 1150 the shop checked the compression 110.110.105,110,90.112. checked the DVA's 182, 182, 182, 212, 190, 1.5. (I have know clue what DVA's are) He says the Switch box is probably bad and the stator, switch box, idle stabilizer and rectifier need to be replaced.

At the time I dropped the motor off he said it had the newer switched and that was a good thing....Like I had a clue of what he was talking about.

So you all tell me what I have with the power head, hydraulic trim tilt, control box and cables that might of might not work. Motor cover is there and what ever prop that was on it.

Then we need how to get it to Doc or Home Made......I am just tossing this out there as an option.

I thought it would have looked awesome hangs off the back of be 16 Tahiti and I have a Tower......Okay so it didn't work as planned because the shop doing the work didn't have the time to get the work done.

So $9000 later I have a Optimax hang off the back.....The Tower would have looked great now i just have a big ass motor hanging on a little boat.

At least you have the option of a good plan B to get you through this season of boating, and that will give you time to think about what to do about re powering the boat this "off season". Going 30 something mph may not be as much fun as 60 something mph.... BUT it is better than going Zero mph.

When you decide what you want back there on the transom, then plan it out and make it so..

Did you manage to get a weight comparison between the Force motor and an IL6?

Even if the dang thing doesn't get on plane, it still floats a cooler of beer pretty well ! ! !

The weights are all pretty comparable. IF I don't do the 115 IL6, there's a few options local for the 120 Force powerhead too... Hmmmm Maybe that's a good idea instead of the 90-

Still more to think about. I'll contemplate it over an adult beverage while floating around in my little red floaty boat.

    50hp Force = 187 lbs
90hp Force = 230-280 lbs (Depends if it's the Merc or the Chrysler lower unit and long or short shaft).
    115hp Merc IL6 = 312lbs
    120hp Force = 310lbs
