Theres a hospital on Long Island called Northshore University Hospital, theres a Building there called THe Monti Building I dont know Im guessing its 10 stories high, filled with state of the art equipment, some of the most highly reguarded cancer doctors, and rooms filled with people that have cancer and have been given hope that just maybe they wont end up being a statistic, and you know who was responsible for this? Yes the person that didnt have a helmet on, or the wrong lifevest, that drives in the fog!!!! Give me a Fukin break!!!!!!How dare any of you criticize him! you should all be asshamed of yourselfs,

I take charity fund raising and safety to heart equally. I see your points and hope that you can put your attitude down long enough to see mine and others here.

Ok, if we are going to be honest, let's be honest..

#1- driving that fast in the fog wasn't the best idea, probably not even a good idea
#2- is the safety equipment they had on for themselves up to par with what maybe what could have been worn....probably not. But I am no expert and at certain speeds, anything you where is probably the equivalent of trying to use a bunch of pillows for a car bumper.
#3- and honestly, the question I really wonder is why isn't a boat that fast full canopied to start?

BUT.... Let's also think about some other things:

#1- this wasn't some little thing he threw together at the last minute for some press. There was a seaplane, helicopter and full support team involved, as well as the npba sanctioning it. Safety was definitely thought of! And I highly doubt two guys with as much experience as they have would have got in the boat unless they felt they had their bases covered from a safety perspective.
#2- do stu and Joey.....as a team....have history of being the loose cannon on the race course.....absolutely not! If anything, that team always operated with class, and dignity and were not a danger to themselves or others 'back in the day '. In fact, I wish I could find it, but I can swear that years ago either here or on oso , there was a post about someone bragging how they beat stu at a poker run, and it turned out that stu purposely slowed down his boat because he knew someone else was trying to keep up and they would hurt themselves or others...I may have all the facts wrong but does this sound like some yahoo to you?
#3- has he made excuses ? Has he tried to blame anyone but himself? Has he thrown anyone under the bus? Nope, nope and nope

At at the end of the day, a really caring, generous, dedicated racer, along with a throttle man he raced with dozens and dozens and dozens of times, tried to beat his own record to raise much needed money, took a chance he probably wished he hadn't and made a mistake he takes full responsibility for. Now...tell me how many of you haven't made a mistake on your own boats that you are glad didn't turn out to be the catastrophe they could have been?

i commend stu for trying, and then for owning his errors, not many can do that

They had plenty of time to slow down and obviously chose not to - and it was the wrong decision. Come on, we've all made wrong decisions while boating, just as they did this time - so quit trying to defend them. And I don't care how many millions Stuart donates to the local hospitals, this thread is about how he screwed up while driving a boat at high speeds (which is what this website is about last time I checked - fast boats, not charities).
you are right!!! all i ask is to focus on the good, not the bad....... if you son daughter wife mother father was in that hospital and saw the care they were getting all the haters would be singing a different tune, wouldnt they???

Historically, whenever someone has to say this, its rarely accurate. This instance seems to hold true to that Could this border fence Trump keeps talking aboot be built around "Strong Island"? Might be better served there. Seems there is more of a rule than an exception.
