Cowbells .....
That footage is from 1970. The easiest way for me to remember the year is that a number of cowbells ran at Havasu in 1970, icluding Merten, Wilson, & Miles, and were never heard from again.

That's Jimmy Kubasta & Boob Hetzel in the safety boat changing the props and recording the test data. I'm not sure, but it might be Elmer Nord driving the boat. Just another beautiful sound coming from Lake Butte des Morts on a sunny Wisconsin afternoon.
I think Dick Snyder was aiming the camera for most of what you're looking at. He caught Jackie doing a little grinding on his moneybelt in Molinari's shop and recorded his best imitation of the Icky Shuffle!

Forget?
Yup, I sure did ..... I want to say that yours was the only one running anywhere, but we may have packed a few up and shipped to other countries. I know we went through a little confusion a while back with the boys in Canada, they all thought they were running cowbells! One of them even posted these pics to prove cowbells were running up north.

Those pictures of Barry Taylor #177 I think were originally posted by Mark Rotharmel and were taken at Havasu 1972.
I think that is a Merc Twister what I call a 'silo', but not a çowbell'.
Mark would know better, but I think the boat is a Burns. I think the same Burns that Andre Savard drove here in Canada in 1973 with a Twister II and had a horrific crash with in Picton.
In 1973 Barry Taylor drove for Lorne Pinel.

Silo Twister * Cowbell Twister * Silo Cowbell * Ding Dong
As I "remember" the Twister 1 and the Cowbell Twister were very similar except that the Twister 1 had the exhaust exiting down the silo and then routed into the chambered midsection. It has a 3/4" brass elbow on the bottom of the silo where the cooling water exited. The Cowbell Twister had two different length stacks (cowbells) directly at the bottom of the silo where the exhaust and the cooling water exited together.
As far as noise goes. the 1350 BP stackers will always be on the top of my list, closely followed by the Cowbell twister. The Twister 1 almost sounded like it had a muffler compared to the other two. God I miss those days....

We are hosting a Pacific Northwest OFF 2012, in Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada, on the weekend of June 15th & 16th! Your best buddy, Jackie Wilson, is coming across the pond, from Great Britain, to attend! We completed the video Havasu 1969 (Nordskog footage) & posted it on Youtube, GoseeTV & Tunnel Boat Racing in the '70's! We have some Nordskog footage of 1970 Paris 6 Hour & Berlin 6 Hour! We you there, that year?

Travelin Man .....
Another good reason to stay out of Canada ..... Wilson's going to be in it!

Yes, I was at Havasu in 69 and Paris & Berlin in 70. There's probably some footage featuring my back in that film. On the other hand, T2x took a shot at me saying he saw someone that looks like David Niven standing on the banks of the Seine in the 1970 Paris film. However, I didn't respond to his little jab because it probably wasn't me he was looking at. I say that because I just don't see how it would be possible to show up in Italy looking like Robert Redford, then arrive in Paris three weeks later looking like David Niven.
I rest my case!

1st TIIX in UK .....
I don't know. It would have been 1974, so you'd think the obvious answer is Spalding since he was just returning home from his one year stint in the states as one of the four Stars & Stripes Team Molinari's.
Who got the first one?
Bob's Team Merc PR photo, Bob with Jimbo & Posey at St. Louis, Hering's Stars & Stripes Molinari on the cover of Powerboat.

1st uk driver to have a t2x
Just a thought that there may still be some well travelled ex Mercury personel and even drivers still with excellent memories and still young looking` that had heard of a UK driver by the name of Freddi Miles passed on now but new him well 40yrs ago.I think GG gave him the engine to upset the other T11 drivers`1st time out he won the Chasewater 500 mile race lapped the other drivers a few times would have been about Jackie Wilsons age now.
