A "hot multi" is always better than a single....no imagination needed there.

Looks like "Rigor Mortis" has set in on Willa's sacred site----------i keep fending the old bastard with a scythe off---but looks like he's taken residence here so i'm long gone. Be back when there's new life happening.

    Found the Picture

Found this picture of the Molinari we got from GG. It was orange and number 138. Can someone close the loop for me and tell me who drove it before I took a seat.

One of the Berghauer's was 139. Pretty sure a brother had a very close number.

    # 138 was Duane & Denis Berghauer, from Elm Grove Wisconsin! In 1972, they entered a Mercury powered Molinari, at the Lake Havasu Outboard World Championships! Footage of that boat in action, can be see in "Grand Slam", on my "Tunnel Boat Racing in the '70's" site!

MN4V is correct, the Berghauer brothers had consecutive numbers ..... Duwayne (Duey) had #138 and Dennis ran #139.

I'm struggling with who's boat that was originally. It appears that when you received it, it didn't have the original paint, but it still had the ride-guide steering. If that is a 16' sprint, I only remember three coming through the race division. They came over for the Miami 225 in 1970 and were first tested at Lake X. There was a green one for Renato, an orange assigned to Merten and a red assigned to Sirois.

Renato blew his over testing and he didn't race at the 225. I don't remember what happened to that boat after he blew it over. I think I recall that it wasn't badly damaged, we just didn't have the ability to repair it for that race. Eventually someone must have repaired it and, if so, it would have been reassigned. My problem is that I just don't recall a Team driver running that rig again and I have a hard time believing it would have been sold. Maybe it went to Team Merc in Canada?

The other two ran the 225 with Merten winning. They came back to the Lake later for the Miami Nationals and Richie Powers flipped the red one. It was repaired, painted black and then Sirois blew it over at Parker. It was hauled back to Oshkosh and burned.

The orange boat was well traveled. The Miami 225, the Nationals, Paris and Berlin in 1970. It ran the Parker 9 Hour with Jim Hunt doing most of the driving and finishing 3rd in 1971. Jim says Harold Bartee bought it after Parker and I think Jim said he drove it for about a year for Harold. Maybe Merc bought it back after that and it got assigned to Berghauer?

The three sprints at Lake X and the 138 & 139 Molinari's at Havasu.

Thanks for your reply. Believe we got it in 1972. It was a good ride.

Morning William, Just to remind you that Merton ran my little black sprint in Havasu after GG took it back at Windermere.
He moved the batteries well forward and rebalanced the boat----years after i wondered why i never tried that, took a lot of the skitishness out of the boat. Won more with that boat than any other i ever ran, but it was a tidy handful.
Don't remember where Mert finished ---but feel sure you are about to tell us all.
