Top fuel hydros are awesome to watch. On the launch they jump out of the water plant the boat and are gone. Here is a video to get the idea. It is not as the seeing it in person though - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGO7W9ZOeMw

But, just like tunnels, when things go wrong, they can go terribly wrong. At 249 mph, respect gets top billing.

See if i can get a picture of the"Jones/Rolla" boat. The rear sponsons were outboard of the coffin, and i'm pretty sure they were 'steerable'.

Owe you an apology Willa, didn't realise i was gonna kill the "Hot Singles" thread stone dead. We have only just scratched the surface of " Hot Boats" at the risk of boring the public at large to tears i could tell you about my first boats that i thought were the dogs cojones until i met up with some proper race boats.

    1968 Havasu Outboard World Championship

Jackie- Lets get this thread going again! I am in the process of acquiring some 8mm footage of Havasu 1968. From my initial list of competitors boat numbers contained in the film (& not having an Official Program or Powerboat Mag. article-if anyone could help me with that) I am coming up with a tentative list of drivers like Kitson-Spalding-Regan-Clinkenbeard-McConnell-Briggs-Merten-Rasini-Kennedy-Witt.Didn't you race (I mean crash!) at Havasu one year? Which year was it & what was your boat number & type of boat? I do know T-119 Kenny Kitson won in Miss Diablo (Wing) with Mercury Stackers in '68. One interesting thing- it was an on plane start. They did not start from the beach in this footage!

    No apology necessary..........

It won't happen..... Jackie, if your mutterings were capable of killing this thread, it would have been dead a long time ago. Can't tell you why, but folks seem to stay tuned in spite of the barage of misinformation and unconnected rememberances that come flying in from across the pond. Maybe it's like the appeal of some reality shows.....the only difference here is that we have to be content to simply read the unbelieveable rantings that flow from your mind after a night with the pints. We can only shake our heads in total amazement and disbelief and wonder...... how in the world has this guy managed to survive all these years?

So mutter on my friend, can't wait to see where you will take us. No worries mate, if you get too far out, we have equipment that can clean up whatever mess you make.

Did not "CRASH" at Havasu in 1970 'twas a graceful flip -----due to mitigating circumstances as told earlier on this thread. The boat was a modified by PRUETT 17' Molinari. Spaldings first Havasu was after '71, when GG brought him over on a years contract to work in Oshberg.

Where do you pull all that wisdom---wit ----and washing up liquid from.
MISINFORMATION !!!!!!!!------UNCONNECTED REMEMBRANCES ?????/ {without the e according to Websters}, all i did was to give you a chance to spout off, knowing what a shy and reserved curmudgeon you really are.
Should have known i wouldn't get any thanks for it, leopards don't change spots, and crank arses don't become loveable overnight.
I survived in spite of ------not because of,----and if you get your rear in gear and hop on the Stickle bus to Jupiter in September i promise to be there and straighten YOUR bow tie buster.

    1970 Havasu Outboard World Championship

Jackie- So you did flip in 1970, the year Joe Fielder crashed in front of the pits on the 1st lap when he hit that big wake & they had to do a re-start! It must have been a scene out of "It's a Mad,Mad, Mad, Mad, World in Infirmary!

.....I was just refraining from stating the obvious.....Had you not wacked about two pounds off of that honker of yours at Havasu, you never would have been able to wear the full face helmet. Yes sir, it would have been bubble shields for Sir Jackie the rest of the way home.

    Let's don't take no chance
Let's not be L-seven, come and learn to dance
Wooly Bully...wooly bully...Wooly Bully.....Watch it now, watch it!

Just love that wooly bully hiding under your hat.
