Sunken Glastron GT-150
Here is what I went out to today!
YouTube - Sunken Glastron GT-150 15' speedboat.
Everything is fine, but when it runs now you can't grab the throttle/shifter without getting shocked. It feels like spark plug voltage! Any ideas what to look at? Motor is a 1986 Merc 90hp.
Thanks guys!Last edited by Trip; 08-09-2009 at 11:03 AM.

Wiring harness/keyswitch is wet or the ignition wire (yellow/black) is shorting through the box. When you touch it, it is using you for ground.

Bummer dude. Personally I think I would let it sit and dry out for a few days. Jack the nose as high as you can to promote drainage. If you have a copmpressor handy maybe blow out the control box as there could easilly be water trapped inside. I would also have one or several fans blowing inside there. Gotta get it dry so the wood don't turn crappy. Nice boat however.

If you tied it bow out it would probably still be floating.

Thanks for the heads up on the yellow wire!
It doesn't shock as badly as it did last night right after I drained it.
It sat all day w/o the cover on a 95 degree day. I took my shop vac to it an sucked it as dry as I could. It feels pretty dry now, but I know it is wet under the floor. Thanks for the compliment on the boat!
The water is so shallow I can't tie it up bow out without the skeg digging in the dirt.Trip..

I dont know about yours but with mine if the rear trim pieces get in the water where the top half of the boat is connected to the bottom half it takes on water like crazy. It doesn't need to get that much water in it either for those pieces to go below the waterline. I bought a big ass automatic bilge pump and I always put a cover on it at the end of the day. I leave my boat in the water all season.

Are you sure that dude with the jetboat didn't get out of jail and pay you a visit?

I would love to see a pic of the automatic bilge pump! I cannot figure out a good place to mount mine, it's too small of an area. Mine was cobbled up with "Plumbers strap" and didn't fit worth a poop!
Mine leaks like crazy between the cap and bottom too, right at the rub rail. The previous owner pumped a bunch of caulk in the seam to stop the leak. It helps, but it still leaks. I think this is where the "Flood" started!Trip..

As far as the guy with the jetboat... I don't think so... The plug was still in! I did wonder though, if he may have come back and dropped anchor, while raising his "Hose" and putting his "Bare foot" gas pedal to the floor??? That would fill my little boat in a few seconds!
As far as the tide, this is too small of a lake for the tide. Catching under the dock? Very good possibility!
This boat only sits about 6-8 inches out of the water at the stern! Kind of a low-rider. LoL..
All is OK now, except the shock every time I grab the control/shifter handle! That's fun!!
It feels just like grabbing a hold of 110 A/C! Same buzz. Similar to grabbing a plug wire, but a little different. But, if I wiggle some wires it doesn't shock me as bad! lolTrip..

Ive had that happen
On my houseboat I have a 75Hp Mariner. It would shock the crap out of you. On mine it was the wireing harness. The clip had come loose and all of the wires were not making contact. I pushed the plug back together and it was fine. It might not be a bad idea to disconnect the wireing harness and WD-40 it and reassemble. Mine was on the side of the powerhead.
Good luckL.T.
