Well, Gordo told me to find 250hp 4.0l's if that's any help. That's what is being used as a base block for my Scarab motors.

Great thread Gary, keep it going. Those big ole v8's have always interested me. If I was ever to run anything other than a yammie it would have to be an OMC V8. good info here!!!

the only thing is that this pro-v8 thread is sure to drive the prices up, lol.

    great stuff, keep it coming!

won't work for what I want to do plus is wayyyy out of my price range.

I've got one of the 20" GT housings with the Offshore Snouts and will cut it down and bolt on a Sporty.

The advantage to the 4.0 250 is it allows for more on the ports since they are smaller and lower especially on a big boat.

Fred the OS 8 was the same as the early version F1 as far as the power head, the F1 went through several changes that most OS engines never recieved.

I am in the process of building a V-8 for my 22" Talon, The motor will a 4.4 liter, 16" mid with a 1.62 sportmaster gearcase and Waynes new Wolf EFI system. The block was finger ported along with some other port work. Should be done sometime after the first of the year.

    You forgot...

All the parts that v8 thing is eating....The 300xs is bullet proof and has a warranty...(I call that a SPONSORSHIP !!)

Sippin the fuel at 109 mph...
Makin short work of all but the fastest...
    Insurable...
7 mpg crusing at 70 mph...

    you do the math !

I get the wow factor of the V8...it looks intimidating, but it is not the set up I would want to run....Been there, i am enjoying letting mercury racing pay for flyin parts

go enjoy your Merc and stop telling people they're wrong unless they do what you did.

On top of that if your 8 was eating parts you were doing something wrong.
For sale down here all the time w/over 1000 - 1300 hrs on em and never been down.

Post when your 300xs hits 1000 hrs.

SPK...badd asss!! Please keep us posted and show some pixs when you can.
