One of my hobbies, left over from my working days, is checking the NHTSA recall database most days. Today was fire day. There were 9 recalls for vehicle fires. 6 gasoline, 2 EV (motor homes), and 1 diesel. The EV vehicles and 3 of the gasoline recalls came with 'park outside' warnings.
I will spare you the cut and paste of the details, although of course I have saved that for my own amusement.
Automotive fires are of course not limited to EVs, nor are the park outside warnings.

Sure, but right now EV's account for 1.5% of the registered vehicles in the US and what, 85% of the fires and park outside warnings?

Yeah, I was just saying... at 1.5% of the total, you should hardly ever hear of an EV fire or park outsides.

Per Google AI: "Gasoline-powered vehicles are significantly more prone to catching fire than electric vehicles (EVs). For every 100,000 vehicles sold, gasoline cars experience about 1,530 fires, compared to just 25 fires for EVs. While less frequent, EV battery fires are often more difficult to extinguish due to their long-lasting, difficult-to-cool batteries and the different chemistry involved"
Kelly Blue Book also says gasoline cars catch fire more often. It's probably true.
I don't suppose there are enough old Lotus cars left to skew the data. Lotus used to be notorious for catching fire. I always disconnect the battery in mine when I park it inside.

If true, then EV's are getting astronomically more (negative) news coverage... which is odd.

Maybe it’s because EV fires are hard to put out. I have seen a few gas and diesel fires, some burned to the ground. Maybe all EV fires burn to the ground.
My brother saw a Lotus burn.

The thing about the Pinto, is that it did not have a higher fatality rate than other small cars of its era. Of course it was a death trap compared to today's cars. There are some interesting articles about that deal.

Pinto's didn't even catch fire more than other small cars overall, but were more likely to burn in a rear impact.

It seems I have spent more time than the average person reading about Pinto fires.
I had a girlfriend in high school who's father bought a Granada. It would stall at intersections.
