Once was a time when all the youngin's were at the house at the same time. Would they sit on the couch and catch up .. No, they would be on their phones texting or playing games. Talking about the adults ... probably. Getting the password to the modem .. ahh No, use your cheap azz minutes. How about actually communicating person to person with your estranged cousins and other family members in person that are right in front of you ..

Fast forward decades, mama has lost her battle with breast cancer by a couple of years, and we now live in a post pandemic world. People walk around with their phone like a waiter moving thru a series of tables carrying a tray of filet mignon + lobster tails. At a restaurant people with someone to either side and others at 11, 12, and 1 O- clock across from them, would rather pick up a phone that didn't ring, chirp, beep or ding and look at a blank screen, rather than start meaningful conversation with those around them.

I had a dinner with a young lady a couple weeks ago .. she asked : How much does it cost to get a car painted.? I answered Back in the day Macco would do the same color for around $400 , but I would imagine in this day and age it 's closer to $1000.
She went on Chat GTP or what ever it is .. and spent the next half hour closed as a coffin except to mumble about color changes, base coat-clear coat and other things she had no idea what she was talking about. Nor that she could afford at any price.
I ate as quick as I could, check please ... as I scooted out the door, I said, If I knew I was going to need someone to talk to, I wouldn't have left my phone in the truck ..

Tell me, is there anyone under 60 that has basic communication skills ???
Or do they all need a little rectangle box to speak ?
I know they stop eating to type. Do they also stop s_x to do the same ..

The women I have been associated with now and in the past have deficiency in reading a street map for directions.
Those Women are dependent on GPS verbal directions from point A to point B.

One small leap by Tech, one giant leap for Women.
Also, Cell Phones are a Great safety-tool for our... Moms, Wives, Daughters, Sisters, and other women we love and care about.

[QUOTE=XstreamVking;3451790]There was a real good guy on here named "offshore ginger" who built the blades and structures for the wind turbines.

I miss Offshore Ginger. Hope he’s doing okay. Great knowledge of fiberglass and Skaters.

If you mean, your wife, I didn't know. Sorry to hear that, mate. I would be beyond devastated to lose my wife. Only thing worse would be to lose one of our two girls.

I remember offshore ginger. I didn't participate as much here then as now. too many people with great knowledge have stopped participating. Cape-in-sano comes to minds as well. :-(

I agree 100% on the GPS, everybody says ...text me the address ...

As far as a safety tool. I wonder what the numbers are between, send a policeman they are stealing my purse ... and those that kill themselves and others by texting / talking while driving.

If you mean, your wife, I didn't know. Sorry to hear that, mate. I would be beyond devastated to lose my wife. Only thing worse would be to lose one of our two girls.

There could be nothing worse than losing a child. It is true, the loss of a spouse or significant other is pretty devastating, to say the least.

My point being now that i spend much more time out in public than I have in the past, I find it pretty alarming how addicted people are to their cell phones. How short their attention span is and how emotionally unavailable everyone seems to be to each other. The younger the group, the worse they are ...

I heard someone say the other day, you can tell a happy society by all the kids they are having. We are having a decline in population and a spike in AI ... Pppfffttttttt

AI will make this situation much worse. Everyone will have access to the same detailed information 10 years from now (in that amount of time, they predict that AI will have shaped itself to the point of equalizing much of our populations knowledge access). Everyone will have money based on AI recommendations for investing "for those who will play the game" its going to be the most accurate market predictions that we have been exposed to (unless you are a member of congress).

This is going to truly be a double edged sword-one side offers great learning and opportunity knowledge, the other side will cut our society's communication to basically nothing and interpersonal communication will continue to dwindle as people become "friends" with AI Annie. Why worry about friends when you can talk to Annie anytime 24/7....

    Joe

Chaz, I find it alarming how many parents give their kids a phone, tablet or whatever as a baby sitter so they can be less of a "parent". Totally effed up situation & gonna take another Chicxulub to fix it I'm afraid. RR

Lame stream media ran with the Russia hoax narrative for so long that even after it was proven to be false, there are still some that think that Trump is a Russian spy.
I can't imagine what it will be like when there is a single source of information like Joe spoke about. They will literally sway people in whatever direction they choose without counter points or different opinions. Pretty scarry for our constitutional republic.

Phones, video games, as baby sitters instead of sports or learning to apply themselves to something constructive, seems to lead to problems down the road. Don't get me wrong, some video game time is cool ... but not all day - every day.

The US has around 1250 GW of generating capacity now. China added 464 GW of solar in the last 12 months.
