Gary, I honestly cannot answer that as I have never used 3M Adhesive Remover. It may not be any better, but it is relatively inexpensive and it was recommended to me to use as a glue remover when i replaced the carpet in my 1986 Allison. After pulling the old carpet out, i'd brush the Goof Off on, let it sit a bit, and that 34 year old carpet glue just scraped right off. More recently, my son used it to remove old, hardened glue that had leaked out from behind the side, hood lights on his Freightliner Coronado. It was hardened and brittle, but the Goof Off softened it up and he was able to remove all of it without harming the chrome or the paint. I'll say this, I bought a gallon of the Good Off when i replaced the carpet, and there's a lot of it on an Allison XTB 21, and I had half the gallon left over. It's good stuff.
Good luck, man.

I don't see how you don't need that much heat, but you need some sort of protection so you don't screw the gel coat
Just use a little propane torch. maybe a thin plywood ?
I don't see how the chemical will get under the mount to work.We have invented the world; WE see

The braided fish line will work better than you think. I put some 100# test on a hacksaw frame to cut pvc pipe. Smooth cuts!

Perhaps try calling 3M.
Like mentioned above I don't see how a solvent can get behind the pick ups to debond the two surfaces

For cleaning 3MTM Marine Adhesive Sealant Fast Cure 4200 before it is cured, use a dry cloth to remove the majority of sealant, followed by a cloth damp with 3MTM General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984. Cured material can be removed mechanically with a knife, razor blade, piano wire, sanding device.Last edited by 4Speed; 04-06-2024 at 06:42 AM.

In the auto glass replacement bus they used guitar strings for decades to safely remove glass by cutting the sealant. That stuff is akin to 5200!

Cutting it off is the best. Heat will destroy the powder coating and likely kill the gel coat. I like the fishing line comment the best. There is no solvent that will get behind the pickup.

Help!! What is the Easiest Way to Get 3M 4200 Sealant to Release??
I had success!! I sprayed some 3M adhesive remover along the top edge of the pick up and I was able to get a thin bladed SS putty knife in behind them. I just kept tapping the knife with a small hammer and they both released without any damage to the hull or the pick ups. I cleaned the hull and the pick ups with the remover. I lowered them slightly and re-installed them. Hopefully this will help someone in a similar situation.
Thanks for all your suggestions
