Cybertruck won't pass safety
Motor1 US: Tesla Cybertruck Totally Not Certifiable In Europe, Says Expert.
https://www.motor1.com/news/387999/t...le-europe/amp/
It's supposed to be available in 2021 not that far off
I was wondering about this...and just how road legal it was...I know they are obviously going to change it so it is.
But how much will they, they said armored..that didn't turn out great..
They have to make it that shape because of the strength of the metal,
How are they going to do this?
All new vehicles have crumple zones etc for passengers in an accident.
Also the front end of New cars have "soft front" for pedestrians in an accident..
Wasnt sure if light trucks were exempt or not?
Great to have a truck built like a tank till your in an accident at 60mph and your body takes the entire force of inertia and you get plastered to the front inside of the cabin..

I've never seen a pick up truck in Europe, so it's not much lost opportunity

Actually I've seen quite a few pickups in Europe but typically not our full size variants. The Japanese small / mini trucks are very popular and as of late the Ford Ranger is being actively marketed as a full size truck with crossover capabilities for the retail market.
Regardless US or European regulations they need to sort our the body / frame rigidity issue and it's ability to absorb impact energy in a crash. Without appropriate energy impact design I'll never ride in one. It's be debunked across the entire automotive engineering community that a solid, rigid body and frame are safer than one with proper crumple zones. Hell, even NASCAR abandoned that years ago when it became unpopular for the sport to continue killing it's top stars......Mark

Where do you go in Europe? I go to Italy every couple of years. 15 years ago I used to go to Germany and Sweden a lot.

I haven’t been in a decade but in the early 2000’s I spent a lot of time in Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands. While the percentage of trucks is tiny the smaller Japanese trucks did make inroads, especially Nissan and Isuzu with their diesels. I had a friend who imported a Ford lightning into the UK, it was always a hoot to take it out and dust ballers in $200k land rover sports. Of course he did have big $$$$$$ in aftermarket parts and was putting 700 HP to the rear wheels.

Tesla make the most sought after electric vehicle in the world then opens up there patents to allow anyone to use them to better the planet. They can absolutely make the Cybertruck legal in euro but who cares after being to England and France and Italy there can’t be much market for full size trucks. Also uk has just put restrictions on there autopilot system so less draw to buy one if your country can’t use all it ability. Disclaimer my next car will be a used Tesla they can’t be ignored anymore according to most sources everyone else in the world is 3-4 years behind there technology.

Oh my question was what will they do to make it pass safety inspection here..like I said it's so stiff and ridgid if you get in an accident your screwed not including the rest of it....like mentioned before truck market over in Europe is so small it's not worth mentioning...There are much nicer looking and just as advanced trucks coming to the market anyway that pass the safety inspection etc ..and don't look ridiculous (granted to each their own I tried to look past it but)..
the Rivian Trucks..
Ford, GMC will both have them in 2021 too..
I can't wait to check out the ford!
And so far the range is just as far in them (so they say)
And they aren't ugly and ridiculous as the cybertruck..
Might not have armored glass.. but the cybertruck doesnt either..
...how many really give a **** about armored glass...I dont live in Detroit..
I get he was going for a radical futuristic look because they cant stamp the panels and had to do something..
(Damn it lost my train of thought...)Last edited by mrichartz; 12-18-2019 at 05:01 PM.

Im a Ford man but have to be honest.. We all know that even a standard f150 would most likely be able to do that..
Not doing the math but, the low coefficient of friction we all know that's not that impressive
And it's on a level surface..
Wonder which would win now cybertruck or the f150
Think the cybertruck weights alot more so has a big advantage..but that is also a big draw back(if considering the range) as it will kill the range of the vehicle..
And look at the ford it's good looking truck..
The big question is they all say the range is 400 give or take let's just say for comparison.. what happens when you start towing a boat w a/c on etc how far is the realistic range... Just like the estimated mpg that's never close because they use special gas and closed track..
Depending on charging stations .. a long line of them at the ramp now? At least it will be ready to go when your done boating !!
Now if it can tow a boat few hundred miles and still have a bit of charge would be good for me..I rarely tow the boat that far round trip.. and not take to long to chargeLast edited by mrichartz; 12-18-2019 at 07:16 PM.

I'd like a Model Y when they are available. I expect it could tow my SS2000 100 miles. That would be enough.

Funny reading ... you saw a Prototype only a hand full built, production 1.5 years away and you have all the answers

They just landed another rocket booster 350 miles from land on a barge but can't build a impact area for the Cybertruck or add mirrors or... FUNNY
