I've got several hrs of video of Mod VP races but are MIA after our movie.

Bobby Sanders (DaBull) made copies on CDs.

    Favorite Mod VP story:

Mid '80's Cols Ohio, had a race on a river through down town.
The era of stock gear cases other than scoops that looked like half a table spoon mounted behind the water picks ups to allow elevated engine heights.

    Approx 8 boat field.
We were on a bridge right over the start dock.
7 STVs, Mirages etc and one Allison.

Was explaining to a buddy that though cool, the days of the A Bote vees was over, due to the advent of then new tunnels.
They start the race and the A Bote is first off the dock. I was geeked but figured the tunnels would run him down by first turn.
Damned if they didn't come down the home straight w/The A Bote still in front!

He ended up winning by 1/2 a lap! I was horse from screaming for him

Once they put capsules in them they looked too much like the Champ Boats they normally shared the weekends with.

I have a friend that has an old Visioncraft Mod VP. He was racing it in Super Sport. It is a capsule boat with a Merc 150 EFI (green motor). I have tested it many times and it is a very flighty boat. I know it would have been a handful with a Mod VP motor on it!

This hull is speaking to me in a big way but I just don't think these old reflexes could do it justice...

Period correct as they get... of course this one was a drag boat, never circle raced but it was a "mod vp" build #3 out of the molds.

Early 80s MVP boats were low/mid 90s, the 380 Laser at the Powerboat shootout went 94 I think, that was '82 or '83. The boat I posted a pic of ran 117 at the SORA Nationals in Shreveport, from what I understand that was the fastest it was "officially."
