I've only been running the Enduro since 2013 and we've gone from the 12 mile course to the 6 mile course the last couple of years.
Last years winner was a STV. Racer won it a bunch of years back in his Stoker when you could only run a 2L. Last year a really nice Allison ran it with a sst120 motor, my first time running with a v bottom. I think he posted a few of his laps in last years invite to the 2017 Parker Enduro. In the 2L class I've seen, Stokers, STV's, Mirage's, HST's, GMT's and Bakers. It's really hard, especially in the shorter course to finish without breaking something. 2L's typically run around 77-85 and it's hard to pack air and get over the rough water when your carrying 35 gallons of fuel

I can give you a brief history of the boat as I recall. The boat was a built by Howard Abbey in Miami either very late 50's or 1960. There was only one 21' built but about 15 or so 18'. This is tha last boat in existance as far as I know. The boats were built with galvanized screws, so they did not last that long. This boat was 90% rebuilt by Keith Brayer before I got it. I decided to cut the transom off and extend it 3' to make it like the Oh Mona.

The original boat was run by Del and Mona daily for many years in the rear cock pit configuration. The boat ran virtually all of the Gold Coat marathons and at least four 9 hr. races. It won 1 9hr. race and at least 2nd. in 3 of them. One of the 2nd's should have been a first because they passed the first place boat on the back stretch, last lap before the checked flag. The said at exactly 9 hrs. they were in 2nd. ( they got screwed). Over the years they set at least one 5 mi. competition record in the 60's.
I think it was the early 70's that the boat was converted to front cockpit drive.
There was a mold taken off the hull in 1965 and there were quite a few glass versions run including our first front cockpit marathon with a 1964 426 Hemi purchased from Cotton Owens. we converted it from 2-4bbl. to 8 2bbl Hollies. This was the boat that my dad and I crashed in 1966. There was another built from 1968 till it was run into by David Stoller in a 250 mi marathon in Galvaston,Tx.
The original boat continued to be run in the F Service class until the class was done away with in the 80's. The boat was the sold to an individual and ran as a performance pleasure boat until he was murdered in Cocunut Grove. The boat was then sold and converted to an outboard and served as a patrol boat for FIRC. The trail gets a little sketchy after that, but it supposedly
was given to a guy named Scott that worked for Tom Finley. Scott was shot somewhere in Miami and died. As far as I know the boat sat out after that and rotted away.

Let me know whatever else I can send you.

The 2 additional pis's are the first glass boat in the 1966 Gold Coast Marathon. this is the race that Del and I crashed in. The M-3 pic is the boat when my dad first ran it. This was the around Miami Beach race. The boat had four 2bbl's at this time but was later converted to six 2's

It would be hard to say which boat he was in , without showing which boat he comes from . Best I can remember going to the races at Miami Marine Stadium as a kid , they pretty much owned the place .
I'm sure Mr. Fun will be along to post video's soon enough ..

Duff told me in 2000 he built the molds that produced the yellow boat he runs a blown hemi in K class or naturally asperated in GN .
For Parker , it will be the same yellow "GN 333" 540 Big Block Chevy that he led half the 2017 race until the fuel tank split open . This year he has a brand new Mike Stock powertrain .

The GN guys got together last year after the race and one thing led to another and nine guys put in a $6000 Calcutta amongst themselves .. $54,000 winner take all bounty . ( What is it tequila - peyote , out there that makes that many so bold ) LOL

All the still pictures I found of the boat were copywrite protected …

The race starts at 46 minutes into the video …

Mike Hill owner of Buckshot Propellers did a great job of hanging with him in the yellow STV ..

thank you sir, I reguard Duff as a "franchise player" in this sport. so as to your request, at present this the best I can do, some where after 2 min you may see them and also after 6 min. enjoy, Thanks Duff ! fun out

I like reading about this event, though I doubt I'd ever have a chance to partake. If I ever did it would be just for fun anyway.
I read the rules to see where my boat would fall in anyway, I'm not even sure I could run? Allison ss, stock 2.5 efi 15 inch mid, stock sportmaster. Would this combo be allowed? Would I have to run 1 inch below the pad? That in itself sounds dangerous!

When running in Rough water you need that much gearcase in the water for control. My roots are in closed course racing and no way would I want to be in that kind of water with very little skeg.

Sounds like a great set up and within the rules for the 2.4 and 2.5 class. I believe you can run your LU 1/2" below in this class. The water is tough on the boats. If you can run in the low to mid 90's consistently for 4 hours and not break, you would probably be a top 5 finisher and have a blast with your family and crew.

Ran into Mr Daily this weekend at the Long Beach Sprint Nationals. He drove a K-boat and a unblown flatbottom.
Sorry for the foggy picture, I must have had WD40 on my phone.

    Cool I'll be there!

I already have my rooms reserved!!

I have been working on the boat, putting it on a diet and switching it from a "California Style" left seat drive to a center steer. There is a lot to do to get the old comfort stuff out of the boat, two heavy stainless steel tanks and new rigging for the motor. I probably took 100# in stereo equipment out!

Div-6 and 1875# is where I am targeting. I was going to run the 300XS but looking at the speeds and fuel consumption with weights, the 250XS is a better gamble.

I will wait til next month to choose my power, but for right now the rigging part is taking all the time.

Here she is then and now!

Is it a 21ft. That's going to probably be a really solid choice in hulls. Guys I race with ran a 250xs on a 20ft Stoker and ran well.
Testing with fuel they ran around 105. In last years course conditions they ran low to mid 90's. If you havent ran the race before, the first hour is really rough and gets smoother as boats drop out. I think 35 boats started maybe 15 finished.
Good luck on your build and keep us updated

Thanks!! I had an STV but I think this is going to be a much better hull with "training wheels" to run over the rollers and rough water. I am working on weight & balance at the moment... getting the CG of the boat where I think it will be a solid performer in the rougher conditions. I would love to put a new 300R V8 on it for the event and just put my foot in it, letting the ECU drive the throttle for the conditions. ;-)

I have an early 2003 alodine block 250XS that I will swap out the 2014 electronics onto... I think that will end up being the motor I run for the event.

Which Division are you running in? I went a few rounds with Al about the 1" below the pad rule... seems it was put in place back when speeds were wide open and now the rule is blamed on the "insurance regulations". I think it is completely unsafe as many will agree... I would rather run my propshaft higher and have the prop blowout over hooking the boat in a turn.

Were going to run this 20' Baker Rampage in Div VI with a James Perry built Mod-VP 2.4. Bought this ski boat minus motor and ditched the interior and fuel tanks and everything else. Were going to try and take advantage of the 1400lbs rule running a 2.4
