It is just so hard to drive half throttle and vary the speed especially yesterday when there were so many bass boats on the lake. That thing wants to be run. It is so stable. All that bottom work really paid off and I got lucky to even buy this boat with all the setup R&D time in it. Very fun boat.
It is funny, when I drive the Cat, they all just keep fishing. When I drive the beast (Shadow) they all look at it. There is nothing like it on the lake and that makes it that much more fun. Need a trim setup like Greg on his progression with the Livorsi doides. I will call him today and see what to order.
One tank down, one or two more to go now. People who can afford to race competitively can afford to fix their boats if they even own them which a lot drive for the owner and the owner is who pays to fix them. I don't drive my boats like somebody else bought them. I don't have that luxury.

Cooter is Duane Cousons (pronounced Cuson)who is from Long Lake where JamesGang and a few of his buddies have camps there. He raced snow machine up there and loves to go fast and race anything he can. Great guy. He is the one who got them into snow machines and he now lives about 1.75 hours from me. He moved down to race country in NC to race competitively in stock cars starting out on dirt track. I think he got 7th place points his rookie year here but again, he was running engines he built and could not compete with 100K engines his high roller competitors were running. He has the skills but never could get the high dollar backing to compete with the big dogs down here. He is a great guy and his nick name is Cooter and is friends down in NC call him Coot for short. Very skilled mechanic and never thought he would see that boat again. Anything goes wrong with it or I break anything, it is going back to his shop. He is a great guy who I met through JamesGang and I can tell you, those Long Lake guys like Chris and a few Jimmy's have had a great life up there. Wish I had friends like that here while I was growing up. When I first made contact with Coot, I was like hey man Jimmy had friends not named Jimmy or Tony????
The Shadow is fast and so refined from all teh time they put in it drives like a dream. Chine walk is easy, the pad or what little there was of it is filled and the bottom of this boat has been sanded down and straightened up. You know Chris and Jimmy with his Velocity were always racing and trying to one up each other. I got lucky and got the boat due to Chris having health issues. I love the boat and will be keeping it forever. Unfortunately my driving habits and the need for speed disease is going to cost me a lot of money but WTF, I am not going to live forever, I have wanted screaming 2.5 OS engines for years and FINALLY after many years of working 7 days a week, I can afford to play as long as I can. I would not be selling the Cougar if I did not know that between all the boats I have, I will need the money set aside in my boat fund to keep all this stuff running.
The Shadow is something very special to me and knowing the guys who got it to the point it is and becoming friends with them is priceless. The boat is amazing, very stable and controllable even when trimmed excessively. Ask the guy in the Bullet with 300XS on it I SMOKED twice yesterday. Man this thing is so much fun, maybe better than sex and I have my neighbor and a lot of friends at the lake in TN who love to go fast and can drink a ton. Hair of the dog is needed some mornings after hanging with them. I love this Shadow. Thank you George Linder for the design, this boat is nothing like anything on this lake. I wonder how much a brand sparkling new bullet bass boat with a 300XS costs these days?

My friend had the same problem with the trim buttons. He made a set that mounts on the wheel. If you got a hold of him. I'm sure he would help you out. http://compositecraftracing.com/ I had a pic of the wheel. I just can't find it. It's a pair of paddles that goes on the back of the wheel.

Well I was thinking about it but JamesGang said use one finger between the two switches and it will become second nature. Jimmy has a bunch of bad ass boats and his Velocity is the one in the feature in hot boat or whatever magazine the Shadow is in. I am going to try what he says first. If I can't figure it out, I will be doing something else, but he knows the boat and he has NEVER been wrong in any advice he has given me over a lot of months. TIme will tell if I am a good wheel man or not.

Nice setup, great looking boat!! Thanks for the pic. Hopefully I can get used to one finger on the switches in the center of them. Jimmy has 5 of them and he said is is like second nature once I get to it and easy. I will try it his way before I change anything in the boat. I love how 1985 looking it is. Need to find some gauges that will not look out of place it in and I have an arrangement I think I will like better. I also want a nice GPS speedo in it the speedometer does not work now and I have not even bothered putting the car GPS in there or my phone GPS apps either. Just having fun driving it.

Thank you for the info. So that is an In Control brand foot switch. Cool. Thank you. I have to admit, even though this thing has nice hydraulic steering I would still like to keep both hands on the wheel although ChrisM's driving style was one wrist laying on top of the wheel, he can drive the hell out of this boat. I absolutely LOVE the thing. Hope I can afford the care and feeding of it. Need to start doing regular Compression and Leak Down checks on it, I have the tools. I also might want a couple fuel pressure gauges on the dash I could probably T into the line right before it attaches to injector fuel rail for the sending unit. How do you guys with 260's set yours up to make sure you don't run low on fuel pressure for instance if you have a blockage or a high pressure pump failure. I know I have smooth fuel flow to the high pressure pumps because Chris had a custom surge tank made that is fed with redundant Holley reds with overflows going back to the main tank and fuel/water separators inline before the reds. High pressure side goes through two Bosh pumps and then Bosh 20 micron filters then to fuel rail on each engine.
I would take a photo but since we are supposed to get snow tonight and tomorrow night we did not go to the lake. It was 76 there yesterday and I took a few friends side by side riding instead of the boat out to test a prototype STM billet secondary I just got. Verdict, makes the machine way more fun to drive even with 4 pretty good size fellas in it + beer but that is beside the point.

I kind of like having both hands on the wheel at all times too. Most of my boating is done on Lake Ontario and it can get pretty snotty. Being able to steer with both hands and control the throttle with one foot and trim with the other just works so much better for me than having to fumble around looking for a trim switch that's bouncing around with the rest of the boat. Now if I had a traditional shifter / throttle beside me with the trim switch right on the handle, that's another story. Toss in a whole second motor and I'm thinking you need a different setup.
Remember, many high performance boats with I/O's have a "both" trim switch that activates both trim motors and even both trim tabs in addition to separate switches that operate one side at a time. In boats so equipped, the only time I use the individual control switches is if one side gets out of whack with the other.1992 Progression 22
