I love a well set up 26 Sutphen.
Spent a lot of time in a 27 Activator with 2.5s that was a blast too...
Have a good friend building a 30 Rage with 300s right now, should be fun, excited to go for a rip.
I had a LOT of fun racing against two 30 Tempests over the years in Class 5 with our Kryptonite, so my vote is a 30 SB.
Length is your friend when hanging that much weight on the transom. Neither of them could run with the IO boats in big water, but none of us could turn with them in the calm.Johnny Saris

Heres a 26 Sutphen we rigged, best of 77.8 right now still working on props. Amazing boat in big water, flys dead level. Could probably run in the 80s with more setback, etc...but would ruin the boat.

Interesting Johnny please continue on the IO vs twin outboard in rough water I've never heard that one. I personally was looking for outboard motors for economic reasons. I use my boat a lot during the season I mean I'm good to take my boat to breakfast, lunch, or dinner at least 4 to 5 times a week and as witnessed by my brothers formula the fuel bill would leave me with a very very small dinning budget. With that said I was not aware that IO's had a advantage in rough water.

25, no hydraulics.
The Outboard boats simply didnt have the balance that the I/Os have in rough water, or the weight. Couldnt keep them flying level. Thats just the way it is in offshore. The best setup outboard boat wont run with a well setup I/O one in big water. Especially a full stagger I/O boat.
I do still love 2.5s in big water though...the throttle response is immediate. Nothing like it.
Our 27 Krytponite would almost lap the two 30 Tempests in real big water....but we were trying to catch a 30 Y2K inboard....
it took 3-4s to keep the outboard boats at bay, thats where the Kryptonite came alive. Anything over 6foot we couldnt catch the 30 Y2k. A lot more boat there.

Omni I guess the Cold is making me cold like everyone else but I'm also getting well schooled here now on 24'-30' offshore set-up's which I am enjoying.
I think Johnny Saris has just nailed the Outboard vs. I/O differences. With the type of offshore waters you're going to be running vs speed vs fuel economy (I would also include initial outlay costs) I think you had a great compromise boat already with your single outboard 24' Superboat. You could run that hard in 3-4' right?
I think a nice high HP 24' superboat might be a great all around value. But since longer is better in rougher waters you have to feel how deep your pockets can stretch I guess to get the best.
PS if there are 6' ers out I'm planning on staying home.1990 22' Activator Yami HPDI 300-sold-86.4

as you've seen Doc my 24' SuperBoat was the perfect entry level foray into performance boating on a budget Eastern Long Island style. Personally the only draw back I encountered was speed it just wasn't fast enough and it take a hardy female companions when the winds changed other wise they where miserable when you hit the dock. Boat definitely when things got snotty could put the fear of God in the uninitiated.
