Torque Tab Question.
I just mounted a Bob's torque tab on a friends 135 Mercury V-6 skeg and now it seems very hard at 50MPH to turn to the right. It turns very easy to the left. I have mounted many of these thru the years and blended it in smoothly. He is running Trophy plus 24" prop. The Cav plate is about two inches above the bottom and we have not got around to raising the motor anymore at this time. Any ideas? Maybe lessen the angle just a bit? Thanks, Carter

We usually ended up using about 2/3 of the TorqueTamer... on various 75mph 200's.
The riveted ones we just drilled out, trimmed to length, painted, and riveted back on. The welded one just grind some off from the top down 1/4 or 1/3 until it works.

Those torque tabs are meant to be used with the motor jacked way up. With my hydrojack, if I run with the plate down, the resistance is to the right. when I jack the motor up the resistance shifts to the left.

Torque tabs are a funny thing. Driven with and without them. Been in plenty of boats with different types. Some guys just epoxy a wedge to the starboard side of the skeg and call it done. Seems to work ok. This is what I’m running and I love this thing it makes my boat a breeze to wheel at any height at any speed. It extends off the rear of the skeg 1” and look close at the pic from the rear. It’s only flared at the top and not a whole lot either

never had a boat pullto the left, always to the right. tab or no tab. to correct a high speed issue i was having, i installed 2 cast/alum[step-n-trim] transom mounted tabs, under each is a welded skeg[ merc] with a torque tab on the port side, pushing the stern to the right. works great, now above50im tracking straight, when i back off, keeps tracking straight. i cant find them anywhere, old bass boat dealers sold them. its just a 6''x6''x9'' alum hinge,2 1/2'' adj. bolts. T/H marine i think..

that’s a JC lower. He started with new stock big bearing ratcheting cases. He cast and welded his own nose cone design as well as the coolant bypass and the torque tab. All his design. I believe the fastest Allison ever ran this same case iirc. When I saw it I knew I had to have it so I bought it off a member here. There’s a couple other members who have one. Iirc JC retired and either sold or taught tooter how to do these and I’m not sure what happened to him or this process afterwards. Beautiful case it’s like artwork

Exactly! When you have the prop buried you don't need a torque tab on the skeg. Prop torque pushes in all directions and the zinc trim tab on the cavitation plate is enough. When you have a torque tab and you jack it up, if it pulls the other way, you have too much tab.
