The amount of content being posted is down, down, down. Years back you would have had 2 full pages posted in 1 day or less.

Like most large forums, most of our readership are non-registered members. This site does not restrict any areas for the people that just want to read the forums and not post. But as we all know, social media has had a number of effects on this and other large forums - some for the better, and some for the worse.
Scream And Fly has a Facebook Group that is actually the largest performance boating group on the platform with over 84,000 members. It definitely has benefits but social media is not designed to be a database for research, so looking up specific technical data is much more difficult on social media. Each has its benefits and there is a great deal of cross-traffic between the sites.
But the flip side of social media, in addition to some very alarming privacy matters and Meta's insistence on shoving their AI garbage everywhere they can is having a very negative effect.
And now the really nasty side of social media: Currently there are not one, but TWO fake Scream And Fly groups on Facebook, created by scammers to fool people into registering at their groups. There is no way for me to know what those scammers have in mind, and I continue to desperately send messages to the people that join those fake groups because they think those groups are the real S&F.
Those fake groups copied my logo, photos, and when I post to our Facebook group, they immediately copy my post and mirror it there. It is infuriating. These bottomfeeders are so brazen and flagrant and have no fear of any consequences from Meta for the fraud they are perpetuating. I have made numerous reports to Meta, not the least of which is identity theft, trademark infringement (S&F name and logo) and copyright violations (copying our photos). The process for submitting one of these reports to Meta is very painful and it really looks like the process is deliberately made difficult by Meta since those fake bots and scammers artificially drive their advertiser engagement up. It is absolutely infuriating. Those scammers will eventually do something to scam their group members in some way, and doing it in my name and there is nothing at all I can do about it.
There is no way to talk to any support person. You can talk to their advertising department for buying ads, of course, but for support, you get either an online form to fill our an AI chat bot. That's it. I have not yet received any replies to the reports I filed with Meta.
This site is what you all make it. I will continue to do all that I possibly can to continually improve this site for you all. Last week we completed a full server upgrade (S&F owns the servers that this site is hosted on) because the site simply outgrew the previous server in term of both processing power and storage. That is the first stage in what is going to be a site-wide upgrade here that will make many things much easier to do for you all, such as posting videos and photos as easily as you can on social media, and options to integrate your social media accounts to your S&F account if people choose to, in addition to many, many long overdue updates.
That process is underway now, and the new S&F site is actually running on my server now though it is not launched or open to registration yet because a lot of custom work needs to be completed first for the specific needs of this site. I know you will all love the new forums and home page. Our sever administrator, Glenn, manages the S&F server and has been working with S&F for over a decade and his tireless efforts to keep things running well here have me immensely grateful. And as always, none of it is possible without your support, for which I am absolutely grateful every day.

Awesome Greg! The site has been rock solid for a bit now, You have incredible stamina and the patience of a saint. I'm sorry to see that you got sucked in by Meta, a lot of people have. S&F is still an Incredible Site, Please keep up the good work. Stay well!

Greg,
For decades your effort to keep S&F relevant has not been unnoticed by all of us fossils still pre-mixing our fuel!
I had to deal with a similar issue last year and it required contacting my local Sheriff's Office and filing a report for theft of intellectual property, naming Facebook/Meta as the defendant. You have taken an earning of sorts from all the work you invest time/money/sweat equity to keep this site going and the Facebook/Instagram leg of it is no different. By their lack of effort to remedy your losses, they have become liable to several legal remedies you can recover loss from.
- Negligence in intellectual property protection: This refers to the lack of reasonable care or diligence a company might demonstrate in safeguarding its intellectual property. This could involve insufficient security measures, inadequate employee training/AI Adaptation on IP protocols, or failure to monitor for infringement activities.
- Failure to protect intellectual property: This is a straightforward and accurate description of the situation.
- Contributory infringement: This term describes a situation where a company assists or encourages another party to infringe on IP rights. While Facebook is not directly about allowing theft, your situation highlights a scenario where a company's actions contribute to it.
- Neglecting intellectual property rights: This emphasizes a deliberate choice or lack of attention to safeguard IP assets.
- Undermining intellectual property rights: This implies actions or inactions that weaken the legal protection of IP.
- Leaving intellectual property vulnerable: This highlights the exposure of IP to potential infringement or theft due to insufficient safeguards.
- Not enforcing intellectual property rights: This focuses on the lack of action taken to stop infringement once it occurs.
Once you file your report with the Sheriff's Office and send notice to the Court documenting the loss of traffic, membership/advertising/revenue, interactions and Google AdSense revenue... the court will take this to either Magistrate or Judge depending upon the financial losses. This will awaken Facebook/Meta to target your IP so any others will be shut down. If Facebook/Meta does not respond, then you can press the Court to file a summary judgement and pretty much ask for treble-damages based upon the following criteria.
- Willful blindness to infringement: This implies a deliberate avoidance of knowledge about ongoing infringement.
- Reckless disregard for intellectual property rights: This indicates a lack of concern or diligence in protecting IP.
- Acquiescence to infringement: This suggests a tacit acceptance of infringement through inaction or silence.
- Implicitly waiving intellectual property rights: This hints at an unintentional forfeiture of rights through a failure to assert them.
I hope this info helps... it cost me quite a bit to learn this but in the end, I won and stopped years of theft of my IP by others.David "Tango" Wilks
