    Outboard motor setback bracket

    Hi,

Did some research on the forum and haven't found something on this.

I was wondering what type/brand of setback brackets you guys are running?

I currently have an 12" setback bracket. The problem is it's made of painted steel so it's heavy and since I switched from a 260 to a SHO it's a big anvil now and I'm looking to safe weight. My steel brackets (side brackets) has been lightened with some pockets in it an of course the mounting plate (where the jack bolts) is aluminium (3/4) but I still think there could be some weight saving there.

Again I've done some research for brackets like Bob's, etc but I don't seem to find angled one, the back of the Cougar is straitgh so I need a bracket with negative trim built in.

Thanks in advance for your help and inputs.

    Try:

    Hydro Dynamics
    http://www.hydrodynamics-usa.com/

They use to make fixed brackets with different transom angles. Don’t know if they still do.

How old is your Cougar? Never saw them with a steel transom bracket.

Maybe you could use these with a standard bracket.

Alright thanks for the link, don't see any brackets thought.

It's a 1986, don't know if this is the original bracket. I know this was originally a twin motor bracket that was modified to make a single one by my father when he bought the boat about 25-30y ago. It ran twin 200 before my father got it. I kept the boat when he passed away. So much memories with it.

Give them a call. I noticed their website has changed and don’t list them anymore.

Made mine from 1/2” aluminum plate and angles with stainless hardware for my Cougar Then had it powder coated. Similar to billy bilt picture.

Humm with a beer on the side looks even better! Bolted like this I could pretty easily fabricate one, I'm equipped to weld but bolted would be safer imo. What thickness looks like the plate are 1/2" but is it 3/8" angles? I also like the angles on both sides on the transom. Mine is only towards the interior with 8 bolts 4 on each side... How was the transom (condition, straight or warped) when you did your hull rebuild? Also that way you can easely play with the set back by changing only the side plates.

I'm doing my cone, lwp and fatshaft right now. when I'm done I will take a look at that possibility.

    Thank you

The problem with using a standard jack plate/ transom bracket and angle blocks is that it angles the jackplate downward. This creates a big scoop and sets everything lower which gives you less lift capability in the Jack relative to the bottom of the boat.

It really needs to be built custom due to the transom being vertical.

Another one to try is STR in Florida. https://shauntorrenteracing.com/
Does really nice custom CNC machined stuff. Pricey

Wouldn't you bolt the jackplate vertically on the transom and put the wedges between the jackplate & motor?
(Vance & Bob's both sell matching angled washers.)

A bracket like billy bilt has would be best. Especially if you could get it with the hydraulics built in instead of a second bracket.
