UIM OE was basically the same as what we in North America called MOD 50, at least that is what we called it here in Canada from about 1975 until it kind of became SST 60.

Lars can tell you more about the variuos OMC models in OE, the Merc MOD 50 models were the 650X then the 700X. In Canada we were allowed to use the Merc 650XS in our SE class.

I remember the 650XS but it didn't have a mid section like in the photo above. Even with a radical mid section on the Merc it still got clobbered by OMC products in Mod 50. Mod 50 was clearly OMC turf and always has been.

An 850 CC 8 cylinder engine. I can assume the powerheads never failed?

Two opposed fours stacked on top of each other.

We saw one at a race in Fla several yrs ago and they never got it off the beach.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Looks like Michael Werner in the background (3rd pic). What happened to him after his shop burned down (total loss)?

One of my great Clerici boats made in Formigara, Italy.

This #1 UIM SE class won many races 1975 with Evinrude Hustler power.

The biggest most important race of the year 1975 was the European Championship race in Sabaudia, Italy. (south of Rome)

A week before I crashed bad in the Stockholm race and damaged my fast #1 Clerici. Well..got the Daily News headline with a picture of me swimming next the the Evinrude Hustler..!!..

With help of great carpenters we could repair the boat and the long trip to Italy started.
Remember stopping at rest areas in Germany/Italy and spray painted the plywood inside with cans of clear coat.

Here is the story from the SE class race in Sabaudia I got some time ago from an Italian friend. Not sure what it says but google could maybe fix that..
I know I won the race and a lot of crazy stuff happened after the race..I asked a great looking Italian girl for a dinner date..We did have fun and a great time...but her brothers did not like this blond Swede..!!..
