Lake living at LOTO still has the best of the best for 7 months of the year IMO. There is affordable waterfront available in some of the arms and at the Northern end of the lake, (lots of people moving in), but its going away for sure as the population continues to grow. We are fortunate to have a couple of other lakefront locations as well. Florida and Michigan both have their highlights but if I was to pick one spot its definitely LOTO. I grew up on inland lakes in Michigan, and weekends as a kid on lake Michigan, then later lived with direct access to lake Michigan- I am a freshwater guy because of it. Nothing better then hitting he remote of the lift and going for a dinner run with friends no matter where we are at. In the winter, lake Gogebic makes for a great playground with restaurants, bars, and shortcuts to other snowmobile trails. Astor FL. and the St. Johns river is also a treat of its own but we don't seem to spend much time there due to all of the activity at LOTO.

It was pounded into my head by my dad, (you either have waterfront or acreage--anything else is just considered common).

    Joe

We're canal front on a spring fed 2,600 acre lake in Ocala NF. We're in a 58 home community of canals 2.5 miles down a limerock singletrack from a paved Hwy. It's a remote paradise. "We're A drinking community with a fishing problem".

Are most of you trailer guys or waterfront people?
Little bit of both. I don't know if I've ever lived more than a couple of miles from the water. And we always have at least one boat that is light enough that you can hoist it up on the hitch with your own hands. Getting a heavy boat on the hitch is often the dealbreaker for us, when we are being wishy washy about going out. Drop it on, and go. Doesn't matter to us if we are a couple of meters or a couple of kilometers from the water, once the boat is on the hitch. And doing it by hand makes it yawningly easy.

I'm fortunate to have a 70' canal front dock in Fort Lauderdale and a lake dock on Lake Dora, Harris Chain of Lakes. Still, I keep the V on the trailer and I trailer it everywhere. Click image for larger version.

ID:	533844 This is a pic of the V at the Mount Dora dock. I can't find my pics of FLL.

And if anybody comes to visit the Lake Dora or the Harris Chain of Lakes, let me know. .. I can tell you the best places and perhaps stop by and we can join up!

I like Florida. It reminds me of my old stomping grounds in Australia. But having reached my 50's, I've grown weary of salt water motor maintenance even though I vastly prefer salt water on my body. Is your dock in salt, fresh, or brackish water?

    Hi there,
The Fort Lauderdale dock is salt water. The Lake Dora is fresh. The freshwater usage greatly increases the life of the outboards, for sure. For the first 25 or so years, my V was almost exclusively run in salt water and so I replaced (3) outboards. The past 12 or so years it's been run mostly in fresh, and my 2014 optimax is like new!
In fact, whereas I need to wash down the boat and everything after salt water, now I wash the boat and everything before I launch into fresh and then just put it back under cover afterwards!

Having grown up on and near the Savannah River I am partial to it. There's a different kind of excitement when running a river with lots of curves and straights. Every turn brings something new ......... a new view, another sandbar, etc. It also keeps you on your toes when running these hi-performance boats. We enjoy going to a big lake at least once a year for a boat rally and races, but I'm always anxious to get back to the river. Funny how a crooked old river can straighten so many things out for a man.

I don't live on the riverbank itself, but my farm and farmhouse are only two miles from the landing, and we have access to numerous docks that belong to friends there. I will never put any of my boats in salt.

Just got back from a few days over on lake Martin in Central Alabama. I was really amazed to see all the new big mercs on different boats. Mostly all the new pontoons have V6 or V8 mercs on them.
