I had a wakeup call last September in my XTB. Was running downriver at about 65 mph, sun was very low and glare was terrible due to my direction in that stretch of river. I was driving with one hand and shielding my eyes with the other, watching the water dead ahead of me carefully. Suddenly I hit a submerged log with the lower unit, hooking me violently to the left. It threw me into the side of the boat hard enough that it ripped most of the screws out that holds the seat base to the floor. My foot came off the hotfoot, fortunately, and I coasted into a wad of exposed tree roots on the SC side of the river. The nose wedged between two big roots hard enough that it bent the rub rail in and cracked the cap just above the r-rail.

I was wearing cheap sunglasses that I thought were polarized well, but won't go the cheap route from now on, and I also will make sure I'm running the middle of the river next time the sun is in my eyes bad .......... and it will be at a slower speed than 65 until the sun is not dead ahead of me. I had just dropped down from about 85.

The LWPU intake hit the log smack dab center and packed the impeller with doughty wood chunks. I had to be towed to the landing. Absolutely no visible damage to the lower unit or mid-section that I have been able to find. Unbelievable.

Y'all be especially careful when the glare is bad. I was fortunate, it could have been much worse.

@river rocket How you liking the Lannier? Any similarities to the Liberator? I still remember running the river with you, while I was sawing the wheel over all the waves, and you were one handing it, lol. That boat was so freaking gorgeous. Always kinda wanted one.

The crazy thing, is that once you can, it's second nature. All those finite adjustments just come naturally. I had a Hydrostream guy drive my XB02. It was funny seeing a real good operator struggle with it. The little experience I've had in the cockpit of a plane is very similar to driving an Allison. You're making constant adjustments, and no one notices when you're doing it right.
