    Boat insurance

I'm confident this topic has been addressed before but I'm approaching it from a different angle. My present insurance company is dropping me next month not because of speed but because of age. I have two Donzi boats one 18 ft the other 20ft. The the 18 is a 1978 and the 20 is a 1986. They might qualify as antiques . I've been at this a long time and I've never had this problem. I'd appreciate advice

You might have to go with an insurance company that specializes in performance boats. Also, they may want a marine survey done also.

    MDS

PS: Hagerty insures the old expensive wood boats ( Gar Wood, Chris Craft, etc ... ) - you could try them also.

I have my 1975 Mako 22' with 225 merc (all in good shape) with progressive. They did not ask for a survey and gave me a good price. Never had a claim with them but have heard good things from others that do. Ins co I have used for 15 yrs got all bent since it was so old. And def go for an antique registration. It's usually less tax.

This is becoming more common for good reason. I've done underwriting for watercraft policies as an inside consultant. It's usually the type of coverage requested by the insured/agent that makes no sense as the machine ages out. It's far from profitable.

No, that's what an uneducated victim-minded person would believe. It's the insured (boat owner) who doesn't understand how insurance is reactionary. You live in Florida, so you should know how most insurance companies have or will pull out of the state, then be stuck with Citizens. People cry about it that the ins companies are bad, but refuse to pay 2% of limits. So the question always comes back to this....Well you should open and insurance company and insure everyone in Florida! Best of luck.....They won't...Just like you won't build your own motor to sell, but bitch at the company that does build them to sell. It's sad and comical.

In your first worthless statement .. you said "as the machine ages out". It's a good thing you don't call the shots, or we would have no museums, no antiques, nothing old that is in great working order. In many cases ... better than new.
Perhaps going to a Barret - Jackson or Mecum auction .. will educate you .. in your case, probably not ..

Yes .. living in the great country of Florida, and a property owner for as long as you have been alive. I've been through enough storms and hurricanes to know that the insurance company's charge as much as possible, then when it's time for them to step up .. they do everything possible to weasel out of their commitment. You try to sidestep responsibility by saying that the homeowner is trying to be the victim, I just speak from experience in dealing with scumbag paper pushers ..

I do build my own motors ... not just for myself, but for many others .. again, for longer than you've been alive. You must have missed the memo ..
