    Them that writes the rules

[QUOTE=powerabout;3409058]There are many companies that could make a race engine, ( easy as most racing has always been 99% stock block based so not optimized) BUT Merc got control of the UIM so nobody can tender.
I know a guy that suggested that in a UIM meeting and he said the looks around the table were he wouldnt survive getting back to his car.

Perhaps the future might still be 2 stroke on green methanol?
Emission compliant e-tec in any engine?[ ."there is an old ad about the golden rule! Those that have the gold right the rules been going on for years, whether it be politics or boat racing, which involves a lot of politics so therefore the primary investor being mercury, Brunswick corporation controls all the racing that goes on whether it’s UIM offshore tunnel boat“ whatever years ago was the only one brave enough to challenge them for a few years, and it broke them.

omc ruled F3 till the class folded.
    Sst45 still surviving.
I think the primary investor in racing is the consumer being lead by the nose by Merc.
They are making race products but you have to keep buying new boats to suit the engines they are forcing you to buy.

Well.. OMC is out of business and BRP is out of building Evinrude & Johnson meaning Evinrude & Johnson is newer coming back to outboard racing.
    Two stroke or four stroke..!!
We can just leave this discussion for another S&F thread.
    Thanks

This thread is about OMC history, Evinrude Johnson racing and people around all this.
The day I run out of new pictures and interesting info the thread is probably going to die..
I still enjoy keeping the thread going but not for sure how long.

    Thanks for clicking in..!!

I have a friend who is getting back into bass fishing.
He is having a new boat built and is going to be powered by a new 250 two stroke BRP.
It appears to have a 12 inch mid and is to be a v6 version of the Gost drive.
He talks like his is only one of very few made so far.
He is saying when rigged the powerhead just slightly above the rear deck.
He also says has internal trim-jack and power steering.
Looks like it would make a light low profile motor for a race boat.

To me it's a regular 20 inch shaft G2. Second picture.
No way a 12 inch mid section could work on a standard bass boat.
See how low a 20 inch shaft sits. Last picture.

Agreed! They're gonna get even lighter and smaller, and with bigger superchargers. Just need lower units to match for surfacing applications. I see the new diesel outboard even has turbos under the cowl.

How did OMC manage business contracts with race boat builders? Individual hull purchases? Annual agreements? Scotti? Clerici? Velden? Molinari? Hodges? Burgess?(notice that I am not mentioning Seebold)

    First..I like your notice....Thanks.

Great question and I don't think anyone know the 100% correct answer. My experience with OMC racing was they did not like contracts..
When Molinari signed with OMC the winter of 1976-77 I did order a brand new UIM OE class boat from him. Picked it up at his factory in Como, Italy early 1977.
Renato never asked me what racing outboard I was going to use but I think he was pretty sure it was an Evinrude.
When he found out I raced the new Molinari with a VP-Konig outboard he got extremely upset and tried to force me to pay a penalty for doing so.
He told me he could only sell boats to OMC drivers..
I told him to tell OMC the deal with me..but OMC never said one word to me about my VP-Konig deal 1977..
They know exactly why I did so..
In Europe all the other boat builders sold tunnel boats to any race driver no matter what outboard they preferred.
