Boat for 150 outboard
So I just acquired a Yamaha 150 pro v for free from my father in law. Now I need to find a boat for it. The question is, is it possible to get 70 mph out of this motor with the right boat? I don't care about holeshot and I only need to haul one passenger. I don't need a nice boat but I'd like to be able to go that fast halfway safely. Any recommendations?

I would think just about any 18' Baja, Checkmate, or Hydrostream would go 70 mph with that motor and a decent prop. Here's an article, 18' Viking with two men goes 68 mph on 175hp.

The usual suspect tunnels, STV, Mirage, Hydrostream VKing YT could also clear 70 solo with a 150. My preference for low power is a V bottom. 70 is in the porpoise zone for some tunnels, and a V bottoms carry weight better.
A couple of guys here have hit 80 with Merc 4 stroke 150’s on Allison Grandsport. An Allison SS2000 would be ideal in my view.
I ran an SS2000 with a lightly modified 150 for about 10 years. I have a 200 now.

Thanks for the input! Glad to hear it might be possible. I live up in North West Montana and those kind of boats are pretty hard to find in my area it seems like. But I'll keep my eyes open and see what happens.
