    UnderWater is ... dangerous

2 Miles under water...in a custom submersible...bolted in from the outside by 17 bolts... with no internal escape mechanism.

Sign the release ... it "has NOT been inspected and certified by any third party" for this submersible.

I wouldn't go in that thing and get locked in if it was sitting in my garage.

At 12,000 feet you ain't jumpin out for a bathroom break anyway. The door bolted shut is the least of their problems.

There is a submersible capable of hooking on and winching it up but for some bizarre reason it has not been sent to the rescue site. The vehicles on the scene don't have that capability so even if they figure out where it is, they can't get to it.

I would not get into it and go to the Titanic site, but it's super cool that they can do that and monitor the deterioration.

Explorers also found the Endurance recently. https://www.google.ca/search?q=the+e...id:Syg1IxOvbqU

Very sad situation. It definitely seems like this was a bad idea from the start though. How could it possibly be lost? Wasn't there a vessel tracking it or something?

The viewport was only certified to 1500 meters and they are using it down to 4000?

NDT was NOT performed on the bolt on bulkheads?

Why in the world would anyone think a back up escape system would be possible?!

Power out and there's no way to manually blow ballast tanks?

All the technology and $$$ involved to develop robotic submersibles and this outfit thinks taking PEOPLE down there is worth it? James Cameron must be shaking his head! Look at the effort and testing Cameron did to set a deep sea descent record? This company is finished.

The US Navy recorded the sound of the implosion at approximately the time communications were lost.
It seems like kind of a cruel exercise to go through a five day search & rescue operation if you already know they're dead?

I don’t get this - so the US Navy doesn’t want the world to know their capabilities, but after someone else finds it, the US Navy tells the world about their capabilities and they had known about it five days ago. Sounds like another genius move by “Brandon”.

    Cameron's Comments

James Cameron had serious concerns about the hull's materials and integrity. Math on implosions says it happens in 1/20 of a millisecond. Submariners will tell you that implosion is way better than running out of oxygen. At 12,000+ there are no bodies left to recover.

If you missed him last night his interview on the news pretty much sums it up, it should never have been allowed. The construction of it , materials used all were included in a letter written by many of his his colleagues and him to that company . The concern was genuine that it was not safe, carbon fiber should never have been used , the loading cycles fatigue to failure.
No backup for communication, no beacons and more, unbelievable.

The USCG was notified of the Navys report from SOSA system HQ. They were not going to stop searching until they were sure there was less than a relativily
good chance of finding them alive. The factors being supply of O2 and scrubber materials for CO2.
