Crazy to take on that level of risk to look out a very small window, aided by lights since it's darker than midnight down there, with five other people onto a deteriorating steel hull. What the heck do you think you are gonna see?

Better check them out while you can. Chinese are salvaging the old wrecks for scrap. Been caught doing several already.

It is funny how everyone is depicting this guy as some reckless idiot. People that take risks, and challenge common thought are the ones that change history. No one was forced to go on this, and there was plenty of information for the people that went on this to make their own conclusions. Like the guy said, it's safe to stay in bed. All things have a rate of failure. Some people are just more inclined to push the limits. Cheers to him for that. As cliche as it is, he died doing what he loved, and that's way better than slowly dying in a bed, medicated to the balls at 80.
@dagodiver What some of the craziest stuff you've seen on a dive? A former coworker of mine did a lot of great lakes wreck dives that were really cool.

Exactly.!
Nothing crazy Ive seen just incredible history on the ocean floor.
I have recovered and restored some incredible artifacts from ships
lost during the war. Being a machinist my entire life I look at a lot
of these items differently. Ive spent countless hours restoring these items.
Mast Head light Deck phone and Pelorus from the RHEIN the port hole from the
ARABY MAID and the glassware from the BAJA CALIFORNIA which was sunk by the U84
in 1942. Ive dove the U2513 which is a type XXI UBoat. All cool stuff in my opinion and
worth the risk to see it in person.

One advantage of Calculated Adventure Risk is, that we armchair recliner people, get to know (and sometime remotely see) what has been found & observed by the bold & daring.
Be it relaxing safely at home, whilst others are going deep underwater, outer space, or traveling at high speeds over water.

I'm willing to bet that the US Navy with their top-secret listening devices... were listening to the conversation inside the sub before it imploded.
Even in WWII the sonar operators could hear people in subs... without any digital signal processing or A.I. like they have now.
In other words, the reason they didn't mobilize the actual rescue equipment is because they knew for certain it was already over for the crew.Last edited by David - WI; 06-23-2023 at 02:45 PM.
