Whats Mercury thinking?
I am having a new boat built and I am going to the dark side, 8.2L Mercury I/0 LOL. Anyway the new Mercury engines are DTS. Guess what? Mercury does not offer a controll that will mount on the port side of the boat! I want a port side steer boat just like all the other boats I have owned. My question is why would Mercury stop making port side controls? When people are paying the kind of money Mercury is asking for their product it is ridiculous that they limit you to starboard mount and dash mount controls. It looks like I will be able to make this happen with a custom made pod and Livorsi offshore drop in controls. This is going to cost me an extra $1000.

Corporate profit targets are what is driving Mercury these days, as long as they can sell multiple expensive motors for multi-million dollar boats they could care less about port side controls. Even if they did offer port side controls it would be quadruple the price because of the low volume.
What is the new boat?2023 Progression 22 w/ 2015 Mercury 300XS. 2018 Kawasaki Ultra LX. 1968 Hustler Wildcat 14. 1985 Hydrostream Vegas XT. Gone but not forgotten: 1991 POS GW Invader. 1976 Donzi Hornet II. 1994 Formula 232 LS. 2001 Regal 2660. 1990 Formula 206 LS. 1992 Checkmate Pulse 186 w/ 2003 Mercury 200 EFI. Random assortment of jet skis.

If there was such a demand for port side controls, they would make them. Same with aftermarket companies, like Livorsi. Seems like logic to not produce something that is not common in this industry. Even your boat manufacturer that is building your boat didn't take in to account the request of port side mounted controls....Yet here you are just blaming Mercury?

If you read my post you will see that Livorsi does make a port side Offshore style DTS control which I am going to be using. Mercury will not give their customers a choice because they care more about profit than what customers might want. If Mercury needs to charge more money to make a port side customers like my self would gladly pay more. Also I told the manufacture of the boat that I wanted it to be port side steering, unlike Mecury they are willing to give the customer what they ask for.

That is a great idea putting the controls in the seat. It works out great with the seat mounted to a base that can hide the wires. Innovation makes the world go round.

Try and order your new Chevrolet truck with right side control and let us know what they tell ya . The reason mercury doesn’t offer it because there is no demand .

Yes and you said the boat manufacturer had to make you a custom pod for it. Thats great of them. Okay, so according to your logic, when you want something different or custom, it's a manufacturers fault for not catering to your personal needs. I see. Boy them greedy companies....
