    Velden molds..

Its a very easy answer to this..

Veldens F1-V8 boats/molds in the last years of the F1-V8 series was purpose built only for the OMC V8..very advanced with a possibility to change both sponson at the races.. Flat or rough water etc.
After the 1989 season when OMC stopped the F1-V8 racing there was no more need for the advanced Velden tunnel boats.
This is Cees Van Der Velden 1988.

I think this is the last time Ben raced the boat he owns the molds for.

I thought that Merc's new APX 4 stroke might push it along pretty good. I wonder if the OMC V8 and APX are close in weight?

Well..I guess you are not updated in today's F1 racing.

UIM F1 are not using the APX 4 stroke V8..and are keeping the current 2 stoke V6 for a few more years. I did listening to Alex Hledin of Canada
how they are going to do so.
In the US F1 no plans for the APX 4 Stroke V8..only the V6 APX.

Pretty sure Ben Robertson can build you a new Velden boat and you bring the APX 4 stroke V8 for fun..!!

Tunnel boat racing is not the way it use to be..!!..

Very few overseas drivers in the 1972 entry list.
    Quite a few Canadians.

However, European constructed boats were highly representative at Lake Havasu 1972 race.

    5 - Cougars.
    7 - Milesmasters.
    10 - Scotti Craft
    11 - Schulze
    24 - Molinari
    - (not counting the USA built fiberglass boats).

57 total race boats imported from Europe.

And like Amberjack mentioned Cees sold diamonds, as a side enterprise. He tried to sell one to my Mom in the early 1970's.

The first time I met Cees Van Der Velden was at the UIM ON Class World Championship race in Skokloster, Sweden 1972.
I raced the SE class and the big boys in the ON class complained about the windy conditions..!!
After lots of delays the four heat in the ON class was finally finished and Cees Van Der Velden was the new UIM ON class World Champ.

Sorry for Swedish only but you can understand the result.

You are right about one thing, it's not like it used to be. Horrendous cost and full of doubt one year to the next. Putting an APX V8 on a new Velden hull is about as logical as filling a bucket with paper money and striking a match.

You’re right about one thing that takes a bucket full of money to buy anything anymore it’s paper money all right not worth the paper it’s printed on. Thank you Richard Nixon for taking us off the gold standard. The money is only as good as the amount that you can print off your printing press.
