A couple of valid exceptions (IMO) would be people who enjoy doing the work and it''s a project/hobby as well as a purpose, and people resurrecting older, sometimes classic boats.

    That's why

Why do people buy a Euro for a family boat? Why put a Drag on a fishing boat? Has the Chaudron guy ever told a potential customer that they could probably do everything they are wanting to do with a Bayliner for a lot less money?

What ever happened to "Yes it's been done", or "never seen one yet, post pics of your progress"...?

Why are y'all so worried about how this guy spends his money? How many boats on this site are practical anyway?

Amen, I see people as the OP explained convert all sorts of boats into all sorts of things.

I also don't understand why a chaudron would make a terrible CC when there are plenty of other 'sport boat' hulls that have been used to make CC's, there's kryptonites, Superboats, Concepts, sunsation, fountain, etc. all out there mascarading as fishing boats with sport boat hulls under them.

There is zero reason a deck being modified should ruin the structure of a hull if it is taken into consideration when putting a floor and open cockpit back in the boat.
Not every CC needs to be self bailing so you can "back down" on a fish.
Not every CC needs to be 30 feet wide so you can walk around and have a tiny house below deck for a cabin.

I've seen wild outboard conversions, open bow conversions, flats boat conversions, bass boats, etc. Why is this so out there?

If someone is wanting a project go to Florida and buy and old Paramount and redo it. Decent fishing boat for 3 people to fish out of even though it has a 7ft beam. And if you want to go fast, put a 300 on her.

    21 Paramount with a 300hp does 70, get 2 mpg
22 Chaudron Pro with 90hp does 40, gets 4 mpg
    I guessing.
I'm not looking to go fast. 25knot cruise is fine.

I understand what you're saying, and yes, if I thought the boat wasn't right for someone for any number of reasons, I would tell them that. Being honest with someone is better in the long run in sales.

That said, I love crazy projects. If someone seemed capable, and they wanted to cut up a brand new expensive sport boat, they could do it. However, I would be very reluctant to sell it to them, for one, they probably won't be able to do it right, and if they're wasting their time, it's not a bad thing to tell them all the reasons why; if they still want to do it, then that's fine.

When there are already many available cc boats, to spend significantly more time and money to make one out of a boat that is designed to be a sport boat, is a tough proposition. It would be a big undertaking. It really makes no sense.

So yes, I would be perfectly blunt and honest with them of how bad of an idea it would be. And I probably wouldn't sell it to them if I didn't think they could do it, which 99% of the time would be the case. A Bayliner can't do what a Chaudron can do, that is the point.

...the original poster is refering to converting an existing boat, removing the deck, etc., and continuing from there. what materials do you recommend starting with from there?...

I’m aware of what he was planning to do, I’d start with fiberglass, I’m not an expert tho nor claiming to be one, just pointing out people are capable of doing what the OP wants to do. It isn’t that far fetched.

Too much for this project, hence my other post looking for other 6ft beam 20-22ft sport boats
