Sorry I didn't follow up on the rest of the story--
The picture is 50 years old--I always think of the 444 as being the 'father of everything SCARAB--
The names that come to mind are: Harry Schoell; Elton Cary; LARRY SMITH-Attachment 502169

Iron Fist
The only problem with the book "Iron Fist" was it focused on the business and logistics dealings ECK did to run the company. The book never dabbled with the design engineering side of it. Only technical side of engine development was the story on how Phantom Black paint came about. There wasn't any content about what developments spawned the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder models. Why inlines? There was a bit more coverage on outdrives though..........

Mr Rodengen was a business and finance magazine writer. His books are compilations of business magazine stories he wrote over the years, that's why you find a lot of redundancy in them. If they were not self-published an editor would have chopped 35%-45% out of each of his books. Basically anything technical in his books comes from company press releases rather than additional research. The reason there is more coverage on the outdrives is that is the timeframe of Mr Rodengen's work career, the development of the inlines was before he started writing professionally.
Just the same, they are all we have in many cases.
