    I need help with a 1988 OMC 225 V6

I'm helping a friend with his V6, The trigger magnet in the hub of the fly wheel are falling apart. Is there any way to repair/replace this magnet? Next question, what are my options for another fly wheel? Can I use any v6 fly wheel? or can it only be from a 225 V6?

The magnets can be epoxied back in and I can’t remember what size bolt you use for spacing but i am sure someone will chime in. Omc use to sell the epoxy kit with instructions I think.

its the trigger magnet in the hub, not the 6 magnets on the outer rim for the charging system.

well that's that I thought was wrong with it too, until I look under the fly wheel and the 6 magnets were all in place.

If you mean the outer ring that’s glued to the inner hub of the flywheel, it can be reglued.
If you’re lucky, there will be a white paint mark on the inside of the flywheel, near that hub.

The groove on the OD of the ring, lines up w/that paint mark.
If there’s no paint mark your screwed.

There used to be an indexing tool for that but I’ve looked for yrs and not found one.

If replacing the flywheel, be careful as many different flywheels will bolt up but may not be the correct era of ignition.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

    Wow!

    Never seen this before.

    Thank you Ronnie.

Not only did you help the poster, but you save a flywheel for me.

Reglued it yrs ago, after attempting to match to another flywheel, still ran like crap but couldn’t bring myself to trash it.

Someone made/offered a jig that aligned them up exact, to reglue.

After rereading this chart, it’s still an eyeball approach.
So, good to identify one that’s moved but probably not to reglue.

In all my time Ive only seen two that had moved though.
Both could be rotated by hand.

    Thank you sir.

Can look that up for you as i have the 92 and the 93 manual
but the v8 is essentialy 2 v4 stacked and offset by 45 dgr
so i think they ran a v4 flywheel with a trigger base with 8 pick-ups
guess thats why there never was quick start on the v8!
They ran out of space where to place the cold start pickups

That is still on my to do list see if a 5 volt pulse will trigger the omc thyristor

Yes v8 has 8 sensor coils
3 cyl has 3 plus 3 charge coils, wish the rest had that spec
