Paul, Great dogs! I would spend some time checking around shelters even if their are in nearing states sometimes some people are forced to give them up for what ever reason and you can get/save a great Collie.....either way GL, I'm sure he/she will have a great home!

Thanks man. But I think I am going to have to wait a bit. I need to put a fence up, as any new dog may stray into the highway with people running 70 mph a lot of the time.
When I first got my Aussie, I immediately bought a training collar because without a leash, I had no control. Rather be safe than sorry. I get my fence up, I have over an acre in my back and side yards, so I'll have plenty of room.

We had collies growing up. They don't do well in the heat and need to be brushed, bathed, and groomed regularly.Dont know much about the breed these days?If you choose one, check the parents bloodlines for health issues.

My rescue is an Australian Shepherd. Talk about a maintenance whore. Brushing? I use a rake to weed out the tangles. You have to stay on top of it for sure. And the hair is also an insulator from the sun. I have seen my Aussie laying out in the sun on a summer day. They cool themselves with their mouth and feet. As long as they have water they are good. Charlie stays inside most of the time anyway. I do appreciate the input!

Wow what a crew!!! Sorry for your loss. I always wanted a merle, but it is the same thing, genetics plays a big part, plus the merles are SO expensive. And most you have to sign a contract not to breed them.
Mine is so smart. Makes me feel dumb at times.. LOL!!! 5:00 pm every day he stares a hole in me until I fill his bowl!!!
Oh and dogs trying to get to the food bowl as I am filling it was a pet peeve. He will sit and wait until I fill his bowl and say "go" before he goes at it!
