    Vector speed

Would a Hydrostream Vector with a Bridgeport Efi run100? This single seat center steer hull. Not a comp hull. Thanks

If you had enough experience in it, no doubt.

Thanks for the response. I can drive the boat. Just wanting to know if I had enough power.

My guess is about the 250 prop HP mark is where 100 happens for most of the pointy Streams if set up right.

I feel like Vincent Gambino before the trial saying “i’d sure like to get a look at your files” meaning what all was done to your motor to run like that

    Id think mid/high 90’s as a min.

    When I built/rigged mine, I had approx 300 hp.

It took several trips to the ramp to get it to the 77 mph it ran w/its stock 150 when I bought it

Then to get solidly into the 80’s, a dozen more trips.
    My issue was weight distribution.
W/a 400 lb OMC on the back, it didnt like the battery in the back like the 2.4’s and 2.5’s do.

I moved the battery to the bow and it totally changed its attitude.

I was now solidly into the low 90’s (GPS) before it would start chine walking and try to kill me.

A dozen more trips to ramp got me to mid 90’s.
Interestingly, I installed a Gaffrig mechanical speedo w/a tattle tale and it was showing regular 105 - 110’’s.

After a season of testing……, it was into high 90’s (GPS) and 110 - 115 speedo.

Ran a best of 101 GPS, but w/the motor 2” bellow the bottom!

Mid 90’s, repeatably, was fast enough and an absolute screaming orgasm to drive!
That was w/a 26” Yammi drag w/stock OMC 1.86 gears, stock case w/a nose cone.

That rig taught me how much fun a rig was that was a rocket from 30 - 95 than taking all day and perfect conditions to get over a 100.

One scary revelation was how bad the hull crabbed at speed!
I put a zip tie on the steering wheel at TDC and then watched it at speed.
At WFO, I was cranking in 180* of steering correction to keep the rig traveling in a straight line.
    (W/the keel center line @ 5 - 10* to port!)

Once back on the trailer I put the zip tie at BDC and went behind the boat/motor to see how bad it was.
    I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
I added 50% surface area to the skeg and was now able to install the longer torque tab and retested.

It cut steering correction by 50%, and was now taking 90* correction.

Point is, if I lost power in that rig, @ WFO, I would likely die!

    Was big fun though!

BTW, that was w/a 543 lb, bare hull weight.
I believe it clearly had high teens (+) in it.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

    I should add:

Once dialed, I was absolutely shocked at how good of a lake boat it was!

Especially w/that heavy ass motor on the back.
Supported/carried it way better than I expected!

I probably put more miles on that rig than any other small boat Ive owned.

When I lived in Cape Coral Fla, it was in the Gulf, around the local islands, all the time!
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I saw in an old thread you put string steering in your Vector. How did that turn out? All my race boats and my last Allison had String steering. This is probably the route I will take.

Not much. Sport Jet reeds, porting matched to the highest cylinder, a stable pair of switch boxes. 22's with 88 jets on a one piece with a drag tuner. 135 psi heads. It's on a 4 inch plate now 3/4 above the pad. I'm pretty sure it was the 4th or 5th boat out of the mold in 1976 and the hook in the bottom is very pronounced. It's a ****ty lake boat, has the low/mid range hop, hates any thing more than an 8-10 inch chop. In it's element on the rip it does very well.

That being said with these knowing a good prop guy who knows what he is doing is far more beneficial than any motor. I wish Mr. Bostic would answer his phone again LOL

Solid info thanks! Im a bit afraid to try and open up the ports on my FF being laser injected and all. I did minor rod slot and opened up the exhaust dump in the block and the plate to match the big gasket and found a promax ECU with raised limier and thats it. Hope it runs ok As for the prop? I managed to scare up a 9.5/10 lab'd 28 Hoss Triton after digging through some of your posts. It took forever to find and i hope it runs as good as it looks

    Yes to the string steer.

For what i was attempting to do, I wanted the feedback you only get from string.
Like you, I was used to it and im sure that helped.

Towards the end of that project I was experimenting w/bungees on the port side of steering bar to help counter act the steering torque for cruising.
