Looks amazing Gary, Color combo is perfect... Thought we supposed to have more time as we get older, I find less and less, but then again when i was young there were days i turned the shop lights out at at 1or 2 am and got up for work at 7...lol

So how heavy is a v-4 looper?
are they all carbs?
hate carbs on OMCs I would have to go to carb school, I had a V 6 for years and no one around here had a clue, took it to Monty In no time he had It at the ramp, put his own 29 SRX came back with 99.7 on GPS, said It's a true 100 MPH boat,
two shops in town could not figure it out.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Good looking old boat. It will work out. Be patient and do what you can when you can. When you put the hammer down and she howls, it will have been worth it.

Gary I can still get in the boat, now getting out from under the dash is a different story... mod vps are a bitch or i'm too round... Lol. I must have some kinda disease, I can't seem to leave something that's beyond good enough alone anymore. I just rebuilt an older 15hp rude for the kids to use on the jon boat cause the 55hp is borderline dangerous and had to paint it with imron/clear, new decals, new prop along with every other thing that was borderline fully knowing they will trash it in no time.

We have had that discussion many times.
Im still there w/the Convincor project.
If you have to put your hands/mark on everything, you’ll never be done.
And yeah, I remember working on the little boats, and under the dash is the worst.
Can only imagine the Mod VP.
And of course as soon as you slide yourself under there, you realize you need a different screwdriver, fuse, etc!
I spent days behind the helm of the Mate, while running wiring.
Then, I’m wiring twins, from the back, over my head….
I had to take a marker and write on the glass, what was what so I didn’t wire everything bass akwards!I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I'm running an 89 Rude 200 XP on my 91 Charger SV bone stock.May not be the fastest but it works. My only complaint is that it eats regulators fairly regular.
If I knew it was going to last this long I would have taken better care of it.

My crossflow ate rectifiers regularly ( once every season at least ) and a couple power packs over the years and that was it

The rpm range of a 2 stroke is so wide that it makes regulating a permanent magnet alternator difficult, there are several ways around it buuut we have what we have here today... a POS regulator. You guys with small boats that don't have electric fuel pumps or crazy stereos should just put a relay in the yellow wires and shut it off when on long runs

Kinda... The way i understand it the stator leads are connected to transistors that basically short the outputs to ground intermittently to control the voltage output thru a diode bridge. So when its loaded and the voltage is within limits its just a diode bridge but as rpm increases so does the voltage which causes the transistors have to fire more rapidly to contain the voltage. I think the fires come when a diode starts failing the transitor basically shorts the red output wire going to the solenoid (battery)to ground. my guess anyway.

Would definitely be nice to know how it works and if that can/how it could be done..am building another motor and not sure im going to use the digital electronics they dont seem to have that problem not sure how its dumps the charge but..
If you just put it on a rely and shut it off wheres the power go? Ive seen how fast stuff burns, starts fire when you dont have it hooked up... Had an old motor and wasnt saving any electrical unhooked the stator power yellow wires melted in less than 15 seconds..

Stator will fail if allowed to run at wot open curcuit due to the high voltage.
Short to ground is the answer, that what a regulator does.

Oh i know about stator why and how i did it on purpose just to see how fast it would fry. ..you know fun stuff to try and see.
Wasnt sure about regulator and just grounding it... Wasnt sure if it would cause other electrical problems ?
