Anyone besides me think six outboards on a transom looks clownish?

Like gangsta’ rappers with their pants down their buns, or people wearing skiing hats when it’s 100 degrees out, or [insert whatever stupid looking fashion here].

This looks like a serious boat, intended to sell, and not just a publicity stunt: https://robbreport.com/motors/marine...rs-1234629117/

Maybe next will be seven or eight or ten?

Or are there actually practical reasons why this fad here to stay, only waiting on ever-wider transoms so you can put more on? Maybe I’m missing something?

I love outboards. Every one of my five boats has one. Wouldn’t dream of a boat without. But in the luxury yacht class? Sheesh!

Oneupsmanship. 1 is best. 2 for redundancy. Any more is a waste and time to find bigger power plants. Personally I think every boat looks better without a motor hanging off the back. Especially big boats the lines are so much cleaner. That boat in the article looks like it has 6 afterthoughts hanging on the transom, like at the last minute they remembered that boats need motors.
    ANTI40It's just an idea.

This is exactly how I feel on this topic, only plus I can think of is that OB power is less work to maintain, but having to maintain 4,5 or 6 of anything can’t be much less work than 2-3 big diesel/ Arenison drive combos.

I can see some 2nd hand 5 engined boats around in a few years where a repower will cost more than market value....
Repowered with 2nd hand diesels + arnesons?

I have mixed feelings on it. It definitely has the wow factor and an immense visual impact, which I suppose is part of the allure, especially for boats like the 59-foot Cigarette Tirranna. A boat like that is not meant to be practical or easy to maintain and own. So in that situation, it's really cool. On a big center console performance rig, it's obviously less practical. But remember that Mercury just introduced the V12 600, which will address that situation.

6 x 450 or 4 x 600, I would prefer Inboard diesel power on something that big, and keep the clean lines and a swim platform.

But it does not matter what I think, I can't possibly buy one, my total boat budget tops out at less than one of those V12 thing-a-majigies

First thought that comes to mind (after the chuckle of looking at these ridiculous monsters) is how the hell can one afford the fuel bill....especially under this administration. But then again, I don't think people with these things give a crap about bills

IMHO when the transom is full of engines it makes it look like you cant the get the right power.
Nobody wants lots of engines, once you have 2 you get the flexibility, more is just more drama, weight and drag.

To me it's a definite Overkill. Personally anything over 39 ft with 4 outboards it's too much, just my opinion. These new boats, the big sport fishermen and the cruisers with the monster outboards look like tits on a boar hog. The other thing that is a turn-off for these exotic paint jobs and interiors on these boats. Again just my opinion. If you want to go fast, you just need one or two outboards on the right boat.

Redundancy is good while in the ocean. Four 600 hp outboards vs 4 6oo inboards the space saving and lighter weight is substantial. However I agree with y'all . Looks a little goofy.

But how about 4 X 600 OB vs 2 x 1200 inboards, or 5 x 600 OB vs 2 x 1500 inboards, now how is the space savings and weight comparison?
