Had a similar experience at Lake Alfred in 1975. I just managed to get across the line within the limit. Wound up second on the day.

Yes..you always going to remember "stuff" like that..
For me it was even more special..John Hill was for many years the man to beat in the UIM OE/F3 class.
This one was the second big win over John Hill..the first one was in Paris 6 Hours the year before.
Funny to read the Powerboat story..I guess they missed my swimming in heat two..just writing "Strom dropped out in the second heat"..!!..

John Hill was a very nice person as long as you did not beat him..after this John Hill considered to leave the UIM OE/F3 class for the Merc 2 liter class..and he did so after the season.

BRP posted its Fourth Quarter and Year-Report only thing that lost money was Marine division because of closing down of Evinrude motor production. I have been told that Yamaha can not deliver motors. Do not know about Mercury or any of the other outboard producers. Suzuki was very lowly priced and flooded the market around here. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUILD THE BIGGEST MOTOR JUST THE ONE THAT TAKES YOU THERE AND BACK. If you do not take care of Warranty problems and let Engineering run WILD. THE PENNIES will EAT YOU ALIVE.
    Enjoy Life Keith.

BRP has cost problems that trickle all the way down to the dealer level. Local dealer near me is trying to sell a new Evinrude 140hp 3cyl G2 for $12K. For another 4K, you can buy a Mercury 200/250 V8 ProXS? Yamaha can't deliver their motors because of meeting EPA emission and fuel burn specs. Honda struggling with weight issues on their big motors (automotive adaptations) and are in short supply. There are some oyster guys down here running Evinrudes on their work barges. Gonna be interesting to see what they choose for repower?

I was traveling up to central Florida week before last and saw a lot of big RVs heading north. It occurred to me that you guys might be among them.

    Berlin 6 Hours 1970.
You can see Nordskog, Jimbo McConnell and I think Ron Hill at the end of the film.

    Paris 6 Hours 1980.

I got for me a new beautiful picture from the Paris pit 1980 with the tower in the background thanks to Sture Sjoberg.
The #45 boat in the middle is our winning boat in the race.
The one to the left is the boat we came in third with the year before. (1979)
#44 to the right is a Mercury powered OE boat..(newer a threat for us OMC drivers..!!)..

Paris 6 Hours 1980..finally in the winners circle.
... the way I remember it..!!
We finally got the second Sture Sjoberg OE class boat right and was ready in time for the big race.
Our race number for the Alfa Laval/AKAI/Sjoberg was #45 and the latest Evinrude CC engine from OMC.
My brother Lennart and Anders Fallman was racing our boat from last year with #46.
Lined up next to each other for the start.

Was that pit dock made with inflatables? Expensive to put together but a really neat idea!

Yes, and if I remember correct the race organization borrowed the very clever starting dock from the French Coast Guard or the Military.
