Why no perfect pass for outboards?
Perfect pass isn’t just for specialty wakeboard and surf boats. It’s available in family bowriders. But not outboards. I would get it in a heartbeat for the family ski boat.
There is one exception, you can get perfect pass on a new J Craft with a Yamaha. But our J Craft is only four years old and it fits my garage.

I just googled it! We hate wake board boats. No consideration for anyone else when putting up their waves.

Master craft ski boats and pro slalom is where it all started iirc. Those boats are all essentially the same and have enormous torque and small throttle changes are all that’s needed to maintain the correct speed for a perfect pass. Dialing in perfect pass for one set up and then installing it on each model is kind of easy. Getting a two smoke ob to do the same would take some solid tuning effort for each engine and hull combo. That’s why it’s not a bolt on thing. Unless you can create your own data feed and command control system it would be very costly for one off perfect pass systems I would think. It’s basically cruise control for boats that has a fast response during the skiers pull against the boat.
maybe now that pretty much all ob motors are drive by wire and four stroke it will happen.Hydrostream dreamin

J Craft has it working with the Yamaha V6’s. It’s useful for water skiing, for me especially the trick skis, 18 mph, and my disk, 12 mph. My ski buddies Regal has it. Wake board boats don’t bother me much, the cabin cruisers have been putting up big waves for decades

Only slalom skiing my self I would think one would have to install a real low pitch prop not to bog the motor at those slow speeds, got to keep the outboard in it's power zone to not slow it down, the low pitch prop will act as a torque multiplier.

Wakeboard boats are the worst. The new fancy aluminum ones with the triple pointed snout seem to generate almost invisible hard lip waves with no break at all so you cant really see them. I nailed a couple last year, stuffed the nose and swamped my boat. The big house boats put of curlers with break and you can at least see those.
Anyways not to hijack with above low pitch prop and practise you should get it pretty consistent without the need for perfect pass. Its been so dang long and all that booze makes it foggy but iirc perfect pass was more of a way to prevent the diver from being able to influence the outcome of the competitors. Even a 2 mph slower pass might be just enough to get another buoy and seal the win. Andy Mapple, what a skierHydrostream dreamin

Great looking package - hate the decimating wake when on shore but it's got a small tsunami if behind it riding . It's gotta create a big smile and yet hatred from shore .

J-Craft – Custom Features (j-craft.com)
As it turns out I'm not that great a slalom skiier and the driver can do a decent job at holding 28 mph. The slower speeds are much harder to drive at as the boat is falling off a plane. We could change props, but it's nice to just go out and ski quickly before the wind comes up and before the other boats are out. At 8 we have the lake to ourselves. If my ski buddy isn't there, it's Allison time

That's what we do.Hit the river before 9am haul ass done by 10:30 before all the yahooos start messing up the water. But a waker is always at the same spot every morning sat-sun before we even get there pretty sure he has a house on the river there so we know to slow down coming around the bend. That hurts real bad at 90-100 mph.Perfect pass would be great when we drag race but that's a way different set up to do on a outboard even with an adjustable rev limiter on the diff class top speed limits.
I may be slow but im ahead of you. *hit's only ankle deep but you went in head first.

There's a guy on the Ball of Spray site ghind, that has modified Perfect Pass to work on numerous outboards of various brands. I know he has done Yamaha and Evinrude, pretty sure he has done Mercury as well. I will see what I can dig up.
