1977 Australian Evinrude ad - The annual “Bridge to Bridge Ski Race” is one of the longest running and most prestigious ski racing events in the Southern Hemisphere. The first two-up water-ski race to be held on the Murray River took place in 1965, when nine boats competed in the Echuca Ski Cup, which was held over a 100-mile course, which took competitors from Echuca to Torrumbarry Australia and back again. During the early 1980s the race started to attract more than 100 entries, as well as large numbers of spectators.

I think the Unlimited rules prevented multiple outboards on hydros. Molinari’s tunnel rig ran 175 mph and would hook in the corners. Terrible combination! I think the turbines were on the horizon too!
The side door (east-side) I circled in the big red square, was installed when Lake Como's water level was to shallow, for the original lift.
The original boat lift was on the south-side building's face of the Como race shop, where the thinner red hi-light is

Many OMC vets will remember larger-than-life character JOE FROHNHOEFER who founded SEA TOW along with his wife Georgia. Joe was a former state trooper and police officer. While he was serving as a Bay Constable the Coast Guard changed its policies about responding to non-emergency calls. In response, Joe founded Sea Tow in 1983 to help boaters stranded on the water. The company has since expanded internationally and moved beyond towing stalled boats. OMC was the first outboard company to provide outboards to Sea Tow for their rescue boats. Joe passed at 71 in 2015.

The UIM SZ class for production V6 outboards with 20 inch shaft was replaced with the S-3000. Production powerhead on racing midsections - gear cases.
This is an S-3000..a very popular class in France-south Europe.

Lars: The article is incorrect. There were only 4 rotaries entered. not 6. Johnny Sanders broke in practice, broken crank bolt.

John..you know all the details way better than me..

The most interesting for me in the Windermere race after the rotary victory is the fact of the UIM OZ class..
As we all know Mercury was doing everything they could to ban the rotary from racing..but clearly the UIM OZ class was invited in the 1973 Windermere race and could have been so also in Paris 1973-1974..!!
